Can UFC fighters try and negotiate a guaranteed Contract?

Or does the fact that they are "Independant contractors" prevent them from doing so? Like for example if Conor fights out his contract and is still huge can he POTENTIALLY get a guaranteed contract from UFC? ( I realise the UFC never would as that would set a dangerous precedent and undermine their business practises, but I'm just curious if a fighter COULD)
