Forget all the BJ nut hugging... just LOOK at Yair. Who the hell has BJ fought and defeated in his career who is athletic, explosive , skilled, and deadly as Yair ?

Who ? Pulver? Stevenson? Sherk? Sanchez?

Give me a break. It's like BJ fanboys can't accept the fact that BJ was great for his time when fighters often had full time jobs and MMA gyms where no were near as refined as the fighter labs that exist now.

Put another way : can you honestly say with a straight face even a 100% prime BJ Penn could have done ANYTHING against a modern fine tuned deadly fighter like Yair ?

I wish people would take off thier rose tinted glasses and accept the fact BJ was never as great as people make him out to be. He's been surpassed multiple times over by a plethora of fighters.

GSP is a great example of a fighter who evolved with the times and had the skill and ability to keep up with the current landscape. BJ Penn never had the skills to compete with today's breed of fighter. He just never did. He was just at the right place at the right time

Yair's game is totally different than bj has ever seen, he probably still has the surprised look on his face.

Yair doesn't compare to fighters that BJ has faced because the game is different now.

Without a doubt MMA is evolving. Yair is probably a future champion and Is one of the most dynamic strikers the UFC has ever seen.

However, that definitely wasn't BJ at his best.

A prime BJ Penn Is a difficult test for anyone.

You're talking about the same guy that fought Machida at heavyweight, while basically being a glorified featherweight.

Bj only fought against very best wtf are u talking about

You're an idiot. Also Bj was robbed against Frankie the first time and he's still beating everyone in the division but Aldo. training methods have changed but fighting is fighting. It hasnt evolved no matter how much you want to believe it has, Bj is just old and shopworn. This is a young mans game

Those were real fighters back then, not the pussies you see today.

Hughes the first time maybe. They had very different styles but Hughes was an extremely dynamic wrestler

GSP was athletic, but gentle and not vicious like Yair.

You're baiting too hard. If you really want to troll Sherdog, you have to start with:

"I'm a huge BJ fan but..."

Yair has big holes in his standup that will be exposed if he gets into the top of the division. Once people can take his power, he will be a fish out of water. That said, he is evolving... & will get better... but lets not get ahead of ourselvez to say he'z ready now.

Tonight waz more to do with BJ's chin being compromised. BJ looked great until he took a couple heaviez... Yair won't have that luxury against the killerz at the top of the division. Ask Choi his opinion on the subject.

Why do people keep bringing up the machida fight? It was a low risk high reward fight in a promotion with zero drug testing and only two weight classes against and equally bloated middleweight who also happened to be as green as grass at that point with only a handful of fight experience.

Neither where "heavyweights" it's like me who is 5'8" ballooning up to 206 pounds and figating another fat ass and saying we fought at "heavyweight"

He's dynamic fighting against cans and journeymen. He's wide open though and the first technically proficient striker or wrestler he faces will starch him and neutralise his game.

Gsp and Machida, fucking idiot. He was the first American to win the black belt level at the Mundials. And he had only trained less than 5 years. But yes he's nothing special. God damn.

Guess what, the guy who beat Bj tonight, in 20 years, will get murked by an up and comer too. Then they'll be a disrespectful turd to say he was always trash.

Edgar would get wrecked by him too.

It looks like fans just won't accept the fact that the sport is much better now, and is still getting better.

Current BJ would still probably beat most of the fighters he beat back then.

It's just that sport is much different now, and he didn't improve.

And yes, GSP is probably the only fighter that has been fighting for so long who can do good if he fights now. Still don't think he would be champ, someone like Thompson would give GSP all kind of problems.

People get old. Their reaction time and speed diminish. BJ was a great fighter. But he is older now and just doesn't have it anymore.

He used to, but not anymore.

So now in this magical make believe world of Sherdog, Yair Rodriguez is a More evolved and greater fighter than prime GSP? INteresting.

lol I like Yair but he was getting wrestle fucked by Charles rosa. A prime BJ would have beat him via RNC in his prime.

MMA has progressed a lot, but not that much. BJ hung with GSP, beat Matt Hughes. He was really good.

You can make this same thread for every single fighter ever. And you'll feel so smart. Bit you'll never know, because it can't be tested. So you're just a nerd without any proof.
