Hope I spelled that right. I was [---]
this close to bailing on the attempt.

This thread is about why I liked last
nights main event. & I generally HATE
slow, plodding, mid tier HW fights filling
up main cards. Way more than any
"pillow fisted" lower weight fights, even.

First of all, bravo Dan Miragliotta for
answering the JBG demands &warning
a HW grinder for timidity. Secondly, bravo
to Abdurakhimov for actually engaging afterwards.

& lastly, bravo to Lewis, who, after
the Nelson fight, I had NO hopes
whatsoever for his championship/elite
prospects due to his energy levels
post fight after the 15 minute contest.
(No, I'm not saying he'll be champ)

Not only did he show a more measured
approach to dealing with these fighters
who look to win the fight on points.
But he showed the gas tank to actually
put away the superior lifelong athlete.

What prompted me to make this thread
was hearing his post fight interview.

There aren't many HW fighters, elite or
otherwise, who can finish a fight in the
championship rounds.

Abdurakhimov is a lifelong competitor.
Lewis isn't. He is still a growing fighter,
which I can appreciate. & He actually
finished the fight, which I always favor.

I hope they match him up with Browne

Is this something you're planning to put to music?

It was sloppy as shit, but BB got the job done in the end.

He has such a fun personality, and insane power to end the fight with a single strike at any time.

Respect ✊ he's a nightmare for anyone if he gets top control.. also dude loves to bang, can't hate on him cause Shamil didn't wanna engage.

Would like to see him against Nganou or Browne next. Could only wish for him vs Mark Hunt, probably one of the few fights Hunt would take, BB ain't on any Peds, just $2 streaks and pepsi.

I like how he fights. Complete
disregard for his opponents power.

He also has a good attitude. It takes
some profound resolve & an
indomitable spirit to be locked up
for years & be released, only to make
a success out of yourself & provide
for your family. I'm a fan.

That fight was a God damn abortion.

Mirgilotta was an embarrassment.

Only did that timidity shit because the crowd was booing and that makes him highly unprofessional. Plus Shamir had a great gameplan but couldn't keep it together. Props to Beast for pulling through and getting the win.

If you can't take boring grappling fights then you need to find a different sport to watch.

Lewish was SO sloppy last night. His entire gameplan was using his weight and throwing haymakers hoping he gets lucky.

I can't blame Abdurakhimov for being cautious, he went against a super heavyweight in that cage, and one who totally disregarded any idea of technique and kept going for a punch or highkick that would give him the KO.

Shamil wasn't trying to get knocked out, by a guy whose only technique was throwing haymakers and a kick per round (which got him taken down over and over again).

Watch it again. Dan warned him
right after standing them up from
full guard for lack of action.

When shamil & Lewis got up, the
first attempted engagement saw
shamil literally hop out of range,
instead of firing back. Which was
his entire strategy.

I saw one good punch from shamil
the whole fight. You shouldn't be
able to win that way.

Miragliotta is the best.
He's the JBG Concubine.
How dare you.

& as for your last point, I'm
currently enjoying the most elite
striking in the world, glory.

As an mma fan, I can "take" boring
grappling matches. As in, I
tolerate them. But I'm not going
to make any allusions as a fight
fan about wanting them headlining
an event.

Shamil went for a finish ONCE in
the first keylock attempt. & after
Lewis denied it, shamil essentially
gave up any will to fight to finish.
I'm happy for lewis

Glory isn't anywhere near the best striking in the world. Kunlun Fight, and K-1 Japan (Krush) run circles around Glory. They just finally managed to get Hari.

I like that they use elbows & clinch
work. But Glory fighters are focusing
more on hands. As a fight fan, one
thing that irks me is seeing stand up
competitions without sound jabs.

Edit: By the way, "isn't anywhere
near the best striking" is ridiculous.

In his last 2 fights Lewis has been utterly dominated in the grappling department, but by various methods, referee breakup, referee stand up, stalling, end of round, or just rolling to his feet with 280lbs of muscle, has avoided taking much gnp damage or getting subbed, and has ended up with a w totally against the flow of the fight. I take nothing away from him, they are legit wins, but he will be clowned by any top 10 with decent grappling, considering the top guys' power, cardio and those who have a sub game.

The Verhoeven-Hari fight was AWESOME though. So much tension. It ended in a bad way, but still the event was mind-blowing for me.
