Not only do you get broken up from the clinch or stood up from the ground when the action isn't quick and exciting enough for the crowd, you get threatened with losing a point when you aren't rushing forward and brawling enough (Lewis - Abdurakhimov).

If you aren't a UFC favourite, of course. If you're Conor you can just run laps like you are competing in a 5000m race and win every round 10-9.

People can hate Rogan all they want but at least he is level headed enough to call a bullshit stand up when he sees it. Poor form from Anik/Stann.

I agree with you.

But we gotta agree that sometimes some fighters just want to lay and pray and avoid the stand up like the plague afraid of a KO. If only they showed more action and more sub attempts...but yeah, when a top fighter or UFC fav does that, he'll just get away with it. The double-standards are there.

Calm down, Gloria. It's a long time ago when the UFC was "as real as it gets".

I was at work and didn't get to see the fights last night, were there a bunch of horrible stand ups?

to be fair, Abdurakhimov was bordering on running away on the feet. It was never broken up on the ground, and only broken up once on the fence, because nothing was happening.

stalling isnt accepted in any combat sports.... in boxing it can get a fighter a point deducted if they continually stall. In Muay Thai if there is no action in the clinch for a couple of seconds they will break them up etc

how about bitching at the fighters stalling?

Bullshit is up to interpretation. Rogan is a guy who believes you should never stand any fight up literally ever, so any stand up to him is bullshit.

Don't act like Stann doesn't call out 1000% more shit than Rogan does on a regular basis because he didn't call out something you believe should have been called out.

only in the main event.

tough to say whether it influenced the outcome of the fight though.

Finally someone who isn't hugging lewis' nuts

Russian dude was going to win that fight and miragliotta stopped it after 2 shots landed on that gnp.

Bullshit

people in the crowd pay money and go see fights, you just comment from your couch. You gotta make the show exciting for the crowd, that's literally your job as a fighter. Stalling should never be permitted and the ground game should be active.

You think this is bad? Wait for Conor vs Khabib to happen. The ref will stand them up even before Conor hits the mat

"russian dude" was going to win that fight...but once down, he didnt seem to have any way of getting up. Yes only two shots landed, but it looked pretty obvious it was going to be nothing but that until a bloody beating ended it.

Yup. In fact, if more people watched it they'd know that Olympic wrestling has probably the least tolerance for stalling on the ground of any combat sport. You literally get stood up within 10 seconds if you aren't successfully executing a scoring move.

The intention of most sports is for them to actually be watchable.

The unintended consequence of the stand up, though, is that it actually rewards the bottom fighter for stalling and makes the sorts of scrambles that actually make the ground game interesting a lot more rare. Olympic wrestling has only become more unwatchable since it's basically turned into a take down tournament, and the stalling has increased tenfold. Try watching it sometime.

In MMA the net benefit to watch-ability has probably been a positive one (mostly because far too many jiu jitsu players are content to wait patiently in the guard for obscene spans of time rather than take any sort of minimal risk trying to get out of there).

But I do wish they would address stalling in the stand-up as well. Guys circling around throwing feints and half assed jabs and an occasional kick from a foot or two out of range for 15 minutes isn't exactly entertaining, either. Why not give a warning for that and then have some sort of clinch start or referee's position (like they do in freestyle and greco) to see if maybe we can generate a fight from locking the fighters up close range?
