Many dumb Muricans think liberals almost killed the sport because such a narrative sounds "right” to them and confirms their biases.

Republican County Chairman Roy Goodman and Republican Governor George Pataki banned MMA in New York. A ban that stood until just this year when it was finally ended by the now Democratic governor.

Haha you are right, Liberals did nothing and it was all Republicans keeping MMA out of New York.

The New York times is the biggest reason. The Republicans (Pataki and Goodman) you hate passed a bill legalizing MMA. The NYT ran non stop hit pieces and attacked the Republicans for letting this happen. The guys who passed a law legalizing MMA were then forced to do an about face by liberal hit pieces.

Silver, Democrat, demanded an outright ban of MMA. Democrats and the Culinary union have kept MMA out of NY until just this year.

Keep living in your dream world though. Republicans did not stick their neck out for MMA in the 90's .. but it was Liberals who demanded it's ban.
