I am discussing this with another poster (@Kobra420) and wanted to get more opinions.

Please take note that neither of us are Conor fans. This is not about your opinion on Conor nor if you think it is fair how he gets his shots (since both of us think the system is f*cked).

This is a simple question. It is a hypothetical not asking if you think Conor COULD accomplish this, but instead is asking that IF Conor DID accomplish this would he go down as an all time MMA and Combat fighting great.

So here it is:

If Conor does not defend the LW or FW title next but instead gets the Woodley fight and wins and takes the WW strap and then instead of taking any of the defenses for those fights he gets the Mayweather fight in boxing and beats him gaining his strap, and retires having never defended any belts, would you think Conor would be considered both an MMA and fighting great?

Again not asking you if you believe he could do it (as I don't), but rather if he did, how he would be regarded?

HAHA @ beating Woodley.

HAHA @ beating Floyd.

In short...

...your thread deserves ridicule.

If he retired now he'd be the best MMA fighter ever.

If he knocks out woodley = GOAT and unquestionably so

Beats floyd = greatest athlete of all time.

Honestly, no. Getting the belt is 1 thing, but being a legit champion is to defend it. Conor fans fail to realize this. All they think is "He sells PPV's hurrhurrdurr GOAT!"

No logic behind their reasoning. He'd just be joke of any organization if they keep letting him get belts and not defend. Renan Barao defended his interim belt and already a more proven champ than Colin.

Colin won't go down as a great, only to his fans.

It all depends on whom you ask..because greatness is purely subjective.

Ridicule. by taking these fights he's still picking his opponents. people say no one's ever done it before etc who else got this kind of push and decision making ability regarding fights? no one.

I'd be more impressed if he stayed at 155 and racked up 2 title defenses against the actual #1 contenders then if he was the first 3 weight class champion with zero defenses who won the belt then immediately went and challenged for the next bet up automatically

You're asking if someone won 3 UFC division titles & beat Floyd, would they be considered a fighting great?

Is this really a question?

There's already people in this thread saying no lol. Nothing will ever satisfy the haters. Even if he does defend they'll just find another reason.

There's more chance of Moses making a comeback in the Middle East.

Obviously it would be impressive but it's never going to happen.

If he decided to join NASA and became the first man to walk on Mars it would also be very impressive.

the amount of stupidity in this site is 2nd only to the people in the nba reddit arguing that conor would destroy draymond green (an athlete who is about 100 pounds heavier than conor and a foot taller, who throws a mean kick) in a fight. conor could have every single belt and defend every single belt and people on here would argue that he isnt good until he stops ducking x or something else stupid. is he the goat? prolly not. will he ever lose again? yea probably. but that doesnt mean he isnt really really good and hasnt lived up to the hype.

It's adorable how you still think anyone gives a flying fuck about anything you have to say.

He's not fighting floyd it's just a PR stunt to stay in headlines while he's not fighting.

The 1% chance it comes to fruition he would be embarrased in a boxing ring.

Only true haters wouldn't recognize greatness of someone who won 3 different belts. The fact that BJ and Couture had won belts in two differnet divisions wa a huge boost to their all time greatness, now imagine three, with only having one ufc loss on his belt? He wouldn't be the goat unless he racked up more wins, but he would be top 10 for sure.

I am just going to keep it to what he would do in his field which is mma. If Conner beat Woodley that would put him in goat conversation people talk about title defense but in the end its who you beat that counts. He has devastating wins over the FW champ Aldo who was in conversation of best to be in the sport, Then destroys LW champ Eddie who has one of the best resumes at LW and if he best WW champ Woodley who has mass size on him he be close to goat. It funny that people bring up Diaz win it would be like people talking about when Silva lost to Cho at least Conner avenged the lose.

But that's not what the question was.
In theory it would give him some of the best credentials there are but most hardcore fans would still rip him to shreds regarding how he did it. look at Ali for example has plenty of losses on his record albeit most past his prime but he fought everyone and anyone which many years later still has him so highly regarded

Colin won't go down as a great, only to his fans.

He's the only fighter to hold two titles simultaneously and has the fastest championship knockout and a host of records you're clearly talking out of your backside ole chap.
