It's strange but BJJ seems to have lost a lot of its mystique. just a few years ago an average BJJ blue belt was declared on here to be able to wipe the floor with pretty much anyone he runs into on the street now we have topics wondering how 2nd place state Jr Champion Jon Jones would fare against arguably one the p4p BJJ greats Roger gracie ... in a grappling match.

Not only that but people just suddenly seemed to have lost a lot of respect towards bjj. what happened?

BJJ is just fine.

Your odd comment about Jones is just...odd. He's submitted several BJJ black belts. His lack of an official "belt" doesn't mean he has no skills. He's been training a rounded MMA game for years at Jackson/Wink. His grappling isn't his issue, it's his addictive personality, his refusal to accept consequences for his actions, his refusal to take responsibility for himself, his refusal to get out of his own way, and his inability to pass drug testing.

If you're gonna hate on Jones, at least pick a real thing to hate on.

He submitted average black belts in an MMA fight. Roger Gracie is a multiple times world class bjj champ and in a grappling Match.

When did Jones ever face someone of such grappling pedigree in a sport bjj match ?

Fedor killed the guard eons ago.

I wonder If every BJJ player to come on the MMA scene was the level of athlete a Jacare or Paul Harris was, would there be a different perception? Most of these players usually aren't the type of athlete that comes out of a big wrestling program.

So which is it? Is a blue belt an elite fighter, or are black belts not really that good?

You're confusing me with your contradictory statements.

cuz it used to seem magical. now people just lay on their back trying subs then lose a decision

Lol.

Def. an odd thread.

Another one of these weird threads where a poster takes a random thought and tries to project it onto the entire forum

To be fair, that's like 90% of threads here

Maybe people who are dumb do that, but there is a lot more to BJJ than attacking arm bars and triangles from guard.

BJJ getting no hespect, no hespect I tell you.

if maia were given a title shot bjj would raise to heights again

Anyone remember when Silva used the thai clinch on Franklin, and Rogan wouldn't stfu about how amazing the thai clinch was for the near year or so. How often do you hear about it now, or see a well executed clinch like that... not very often. Techniques come on the scene and make some waves then people figure out how to train for them.
