Why we don't see more BJJ guys just doing rolling shit and pulling guard like Hall? It is a tool

The Unified Rules are geared towards American Wrestlers. BJJ guys like Werdum, Ortega, Jacare, Nate Diaz, who dont have good wrestling should try the same strategy, it is perfectly legal and maximizes their chance to win. I think if Nate Diaz had used this gameplan against Conor he would've been 2-0

Werdum has done it, just not to the same degree. He has a little more respect for MMA

Yes, the unified rules are geared towards wrestlers by arbitrarily empowering the referee to stand fighters up off the ground, and by mandating that rounds start standing regardless of the positioning of the fighters at the end of the round.

It's a high risk move unless you have an ultra nasty guard / leg attack arsenal.

- soccer kicks arent allowed
- upkicks arent allowed
- short rounds, no time for submissions but plenty for lay n pray
- top control is always considered a better position than guard (see Arona vs Fedor for how it should be done)
- elbows are allowed

Most guys wouldn't know what to do with it once they got there. The only reason it's at all effective for him is because he's an octopus on meth.

becasue not all of them are leg lock speciallists, and being on the bottom means you are losing the fight.

for the love of the shergods Werdum, Ortega, Jacare, Nate Diaz dont listen to this guy. This will single handily breath life into the other combat sports RIP mma.....Meh werdum did it a little against Reem in strikeforce but it wasnt sleepy eyed hall level

He's also trained MMA for about 10 years longer than Hall. He has much more experience with striking.

Yeah but imagine if he had spent 10 years optimizing rolling shit ? He would be undefeated with no brain damage. Grapplers should stop trying to strike or they'll end up like Eddie Chinny Alvarez

If Diaz will loose to Conor then the fight will take place on the feet. U think that strategy would work on guys like Conor? Maynard had a breakdown in there, only reason he lost. Hope Maynard retires, a vet, getting older and hasn't looked great since Nate put him out.

What respect did Werdum show? At least Hall won the fight and all most finished him.

Its not a reliable strategy. Werdum did this a while ago with mixed results. That Maynard couldn't pull the trigger shound not encourage that as a gameplan. A more confident fighter can assume top position and punish accordingly, if their defense and positioning is good.

Watch Werdum vs Overeem in their first fight, a complete snooze fest..That's why this shouldn't be done with top ranked fighters. Only one I know that can pull off what he wants to do on the ground for the most part against anyone is Maia with a shout out to Jake too

The unified rules are not geared toward wrestlers. Knees/kicks to the head of grounded opponents would make even the most boring top control specialists into finishing machines based on positional superiority, and heavy strikes that don't compromise that positional superiority.

I don't think any fighter would be confident being in the guard of these guys. Conor wouldn't even assume top position against a rocked Nate, he respected the ground game of a Cesar Gracie black belt

The US invented the (boring) unified rules and cage to cater to the americans.
It is not how mma was meant to be but unfortunately US marketing beats all good products.

Because not all BJJ guys practice barrel rolling and because many BJJ fighters want to entertain and build a fan base. Hall won that fight no doubt but he probably lost more fans than he gained.

You mean the second fight between Overeem and Werdum? I remember their first fight being pretty good.

Yes they are, knees to the head are the only example you can find. I wrote a list of things that favor wrestlers over BJJ guys, the short rounds and favoring top position over bottom are massive advantages
