With a win over Tim Elliot tonight, impressive or not, the flyweight king remains on his winning streak. With that being said, let's discuss about Demetrious Johnson's future at FLW, BW and future fights a head of him.

Next fight:

With DJ unwilling to make the move to BW and Cruz busy with Garbrandt and Dillashaw, the only fight that makes sense at this point is a trilogy with Joseph Benavidez. Joe is on a 6 fight winning streak, with wins over Cejudo, Makovsky, Bagautinov, Elliot, Ortiz and Moraga. He deserves it over anyone else.

Future at Flyweight:

Three key match ups are going down soon:

At UFC 206, (N.7) Zack Makovsky (19-7) vs (N.10) Dustin Ortiz (15-6)
At UFC 207, (N.4) Jussier Formiga (19-4) vs (N.14) Sergio Pettis (14-2)
At UFC 207, (N.11) Louis Smolka (11-2) vs (N.13) Ray Borg (9-2)

Most recently,

(N.3) Kyoji Horiguchi (18-2) defeated (N.8) Ali Bagautinov (14-5)
(N.12) Brandon Moreno (13-3) defeated unranked Ryan Benoit (9-5)
Unranked Rob Font (13-2) defeated TUF 24 semi-finalist Matt Schnell (9-3) in his FLW debut.

Key Match Ups;

-(C) Demetrious Johnson (25-2-1) vs (N.1) Joseph Benavidez (25-4)

-(N.3) Kyoji Horiguchi (18-2) vs (N.5) Wilson Reis (21-6) winner
vs > Winner get's next shot.
-(N.4) Jussier Formiga (19-4) vs (N.14) Sergio Pettis (14-2) winner

-(N.7) Zack Makovsky (19-7) vs (N.10) Dustin Ortiz (15-6) winner
vs
-(N.11) Louis Smolka (11-2) vs (N.13) Ray Borg winner

-(N.2) Henry Cejudo (10-2) vs (N.8) Ali Bagautinov (14-5)

-(N.9) John Moraga (16-5) vs Tim Elliot (14-7-1)

-(N.12) Brandon Moreno (13-3) vs Matheus Nicolo Pereira (12-1, 2-0 in UFC)

-Rob Font (13-2) vs Alexander Pantoja (16-2, TUF semi-finalist)

Not to forget Tj Dillashaw's statement about moving down to FLW. Dj vs TJ would be an epic fight.

Long story, Demetrious Johnson will always have someone new to face at FLW.

I would pay $100 to watch him fight Cyborg at 145.(Cyborg gets USADA exemption.)

The record is what's next. Then winning the BW belt. Those two things make MM the GOAT.

Unfortunately probably benavidez 3

The UFC like the champ to fight someone who is in their weight class and who won on the same bill, it's one of the few things they copy from boxing.
I don't really want to see Benavidez 3 but I expect it to be next.

Quit the UFC so that he can sign with WWE and be the newest member of the New Day.

Who fucking cares?

Lighter fighters are only relevant to the extent they are willing to fight up a weight class.

MM's success is tied to his willingness to fight at BW. He won't do it, so he is ultimately going to be remembered as a footnote.

No one would give a shit about Floyd Mayweather if he had spent his entire career at super featherweight.

Your OP is spot on, TS. Looking forward to Smolka vs Borg.

can you really deny Joe he is on a 6 fight win streak and 5 of those fighters are in the top 10

Christmas is right around the corner so I believe he'll be heading back to Santa's workshop now

Everyone knows he won

Other than the people who matter and the people who give out the win bonuses to the fighters who actually won and the people who record a fighters record.
No doubt you think Henderson is the current MW champ too.
