Do you consider Stipe's win over Werdum a Cleveland Championship?

I remember the UFC was going around saying Stipe was the first to end the Cleveland drought.

But then the Cavs won and mainstream media said it was the first time Cleveland won a championship in decades.

Now the Indians are in the World Series and people are saying this will be the 2nd Cleveland championship since the drought

Just because main stream media doesn't give mma it's fair due doesn't mean Stipe wasn't first. He achieved the pinnacle of the sport right now. So hell yes.

I'm at home in Cleveland right now and Stipe broke the curse

No, it's not a W for Cleveland, pseudo sports like MMA don't count.

No, GSP winning the belt is not even close to comparable to the habs winning a stanley cup in montreal, the amount of interest is separated by orders of magnitude

Yeah he was the 1st to bring the Gold home, so yeah stipe was the 1st. If MMA was as pop as baseball, basketball etc etc then him winning Gold would of had more media presence thus more recognision.

As a clevelander we do consider him breaking the curse for Cleveland but it was still much bigger deal that the cavs won. Went to the same high school as him so maybe my opinion is jaded but everyone around here loves him and even non mma fans tune in to see him fight.

He's not a Cleveland sports team. His sport doesn't involve regional representation.

No, the UFC doesn't have a real algorithm for championship fights, therefore it isn't a completely official sport.
