19 november at Belfast North Ireland, Nelson vs Dong Hyun Kim, both ranked at #10 and #12.... who wins and how???

And against which fighters on the top 10 do you favor Nelson or Kim against? Welterweight right now is as stacked as it´s ever been with people like Maia, Wonderboy, Woodley, Lawler, Cerrone, Gastelum, Hendrix, Larkings, Magny ahead of them.

One more question: Is it too far-fetched to think Gunnar can ride on Conor´s coattails and get a TS co-main event in Ireland in the future? Maybe a rematch with Maia if he becomes champion and Gunnar is on a win streak??

DHK already peaked hes a at the bottom top 10 guy at best

Gunnar with how he looked against Tumenov could prolly make fringe top 5 but hes too small and his sturiking defense/TD ability too suspect to be a legit title contender @ 170

Gunnar is still a mystery to me and DHK is a solidified gatekeeper for the top ten.

Ok, but you don´t need to be a fan of everybody to give your opinion about them.
i think gunnar will go further then DHK, but not sure he can be the jon pal sigmarsson of icelandic mma

gunnar by bloody KO

Gastelum Nelson is actually a really interesting match up. I think there are maybe 3 fighters in the top 10 that Gunnar could hang with at his current level. Still has plenty of time though, and a lot of top welterweights aren't getting any younger

dong could be top 5 if he went back to fighting smart.

gunnar could also be top 5, but should be at lightweight. (although his body looked better against tumenov)

as much as i love both guys (hate this fight), don't think either will be a champion.

You´re right. And it´s better that he stays for a while at WW and exhaust his options, and only think about a cut to LW (if possible) later in his career.

Gunnar Nelson's personality is so dry that he makes Ben Stein seem like Robin Williams. And as a result, he's actually kind of interesting lol.

Top 10 material.
Not top 5.

Maybe Nelson, by some crazy combinations, can get to top 5 for a fight and then lose and go back to #7-10 again.

He'd get tagged on the feet a lot more at LW. The entirety of his striking defense relies on speed and reflexes. He would not have a speed advantage at LW.

but i'd imagine TD's would come easier, not getting outmuscled.

and there's still guys at LW who aren't that fast, don't think it'd be anything major.

I agree... but who at the top 10 LW do you see Gunny taking down? I mean, besides Nate Diaz?

Edit: Look at the top 10: Alvarez, Khabib, RDA, Ferg, Diaz, Barboza, Johnson, Chiesa, Cerrone, Dariush. I don´t see Gunny any luckier at lw against the top 10 ....

ferguson
diaz
chiesa (site i'm on says he's # 9 dunno if its right)
cerrone? (cant recall the last time someone tried to take him down though so i dunno where his TDD is at currently)
not really sure how good dariush's TDD is either.

he could probably take some others down if the timing is right.

i agree with fortheo, gunnar is too plodding to be at LW, and I would add that his size and affinity for bjj will make him less likely to bulk up the 15lbs needed for mw.

That said, I like watching him fight and hope he will at least make top 5/a contender. With some growth in skills I think that is reasonable.

I haven't watched as much of DHK as i'd like, probably 4-5 of his fights. Harder to have an strong opinion there, but from what I've seen I'd say he won't make top 5 from this point. WW is pretty deep, that statement is more based on other fighters than what I see in DHK.

FTR I think Gall can be good too but it's a tough division like I said. At least Gall looks to have the frame to move up to MW without really hindering himself.

Well, his speed advantage at WW is almost non-existant so I guess he's fucked then. Off to Bellator then.

I agree with Skitzadactyl, he'd be tough to beat at 155.

I think it would definitely hinder his stand-up, but you're right that it would aid his grappling. I Just don't like seeing people cutting weight and he's filling out a bit these days, so I think he'll be fine at WW. I think his skill set is great for the current WW division, which is full of wrestlers who A. Gunnar can submit with superior technique, or B. Gunnar can use his speed and striking to pick apart on the feet. His style just fits in well with the division right now.

Gunnar isn't a great takedown specialist (his takedowns are alright), so it's better that he's in a division with a bunch of wrestlers who might take the fight to the ground themselves, or a bunch of wrestlers who Gunnar can out-strike.
