ever since they bowed out, so many fighters have been rebelling, big time. al iaquinta has talked about changing careers, as have jose aldo and joe duffy, and many fighters have been hitting out at the ufc in ways we've never seen before, like jacare talking about getting screwed by the ufc, and gonzaga saying he is ashamed to be a part of the ufc.

recently dana white went on record as saying that chris weidman had to go see the fertitas before he would agree to fighting yoel romero (https://mmainsight.com/news/chris-weidman-vs-yoel-romero-now-official-for-ufc-205). what could this possibly mean, given that they are now separated from the company?

there have been rumours about mob links with the fertitas, have they been strong-arming the fighters this whole time and now the fighters are free to lash out? or have the fertitas simply been smoothing fighter butthurt over with tax-free cash injections?

You're blowing things out of proportion. Fighters have always spoken out against the UFC.

Knowing that your company was worth $4.2 billion and hearing about record revenue and profits for 2015 change things. If they did anything to keep people satisfied, it was keeping them in the dark as to how much people were making.

The same way every company is keeping their employees in line.

Via life.

If you have kids and shit, your kids hungry tummies keep you in line.

so now that the fertitas left, the ufc fighters kids arent hungry anymore?

gotcha

I sense an incredible sea change on the horizon, if these guys get smart and start rebelling together -- as in, at the same time and in the same ways. It would be the one, lasting way that they could take charge of their futures. Imagine if all the big names teamed up and declared, "We're not fighting, unless you do [x] and [y] changes." Now would be the time to do something like this. A new entity just acquired the UFC, and they are probably secretly wringing their hands, wondering if they placed the right bet. They want to make money and recoup that investment. They can't do that without the UFC's stars.

What the hell are you talking about? Randy, Tito, Rampage, Frank Shamrock, Jon Jones, Wand, etc. all had public feuds with Zuffa. It goes on and on and on. Hendo left in his prime years because he wasn't getting a rematch against Anderson.

Are you new?

If the fighters misbehaved they'd find a dead horses head on their bed.

You basically just described a fighters union.

Sure. The time is ripe, and a union is long overdue.

Edit: I'm also talking about fighters taking steps to ensure that the UFC doesn't turn into a total circus, and there's still a modicum of respect given to MMA as a legit competitive discipline.

I'm sure the talent agency they're working for are looking after their best interests...

Is it me or was Hendo was a decade out from his prime when he fought Silva the first time....

Pretty much. Fighters thought they were eating well enough. They were lucky to there.

It's like Sonnen said, these guys were saying thank you to Zuffa, Fox, he was saying you're welcome.

Regardless of that, it's safe to say, the Fertitta's got out at the perfect time.

TS: likely more akin to coincidence or convenience.

The Fertitas may have seen the fighter pay issue looming and got out ahead of it. The Fertitas departure may have emboldened fighters to start railing for more salary. You can ball-up the tinfoil hat and toss it in with the rubbish.
