It's not Connor fault. It's Dana's and the society of spectacle's fault.

Dana White went from building this great arena, against puritans, politicians, and conservatives, where the baddest mofo went to prove who was the meanest, strongest, more skilled, and refined warrior, to this cheap spectacle where whoever is more popular or gracious or loudest yeller can sell better fights. Connor is just another cash cow, and his time, like the ones before, will come to get used and disposed.
This is just a reflection of the decadent society of spectacle, a stupid MTV or Kardashian's show for adolescents..Even in a fan forum, where you some level of purism and admiration for the art should prevail, you encounter the "he can sell fights" reasoning all over. This became a mall, a fucking shopping mall...

This is true. I can't blame Conor, most would take the chance too if they were put in his position

I see your point. But he isn't a shitty fighter by any stretch of the imagination either.

Conor kind of got lucky in that the stars aligned for him. All other big draws are out for some reason- Ronda, Jones, GSP so they've given him more power which has inflated his ego even further. They sort of created a monster by their own doing and between that and Bisping/Henderson and Jones/Rumble, also delegitamizes belts

Cult of personality...Mcgregor, CM Punk...I'm sure the new owners would love to go full WWE

Never said that. He is a very good fighter, but the spectacle oriented model prevails over the logics of matchmaking, contender merits, and belt defending rankings.

All of this

This isn't a new thing that you're pointing out. It started a long time ago with a behemoth named Lesnar. Love it or hate it, Conor and Lenar are good for the growth of the sport overall. If not for guys like them and Chael, the FOX deal would've never come, MSG would've NEVER been possible and MMA fighters would be making less than they are.

I have long been a purist, had no respect for Lesnar when he was on top. It was after he left that I realized what he did for the growth of the sport. Love or Hate it, the spectacles are great for the sport.

Growing will never be bad, but at which price? Lesnar and Connor are very good fighters both of them, and hyping and capitalizing on their figures is more than valid. But what we are seeing nowadays, is a total restructure of the matchmaking logics, disregarding all values like skills, merits, rankings, and even honor, to get one more ppv at any price.

How is it Dana's fault? It's nobody's fault. Dana is just trying to maximize profit, he's no different from McGregor.

All of us bend over for corporate America and buy their shit made by exploited 3rd world laborers to save a couple bucks. Imagine the things you'd do for hundreds of millions, which is the kind of money McGregor is making Dana & co. Everyone sitting on their moral high horses bitching about UFC for destroying a "pure sport" would suck Conor's d twice as hard if they stood to gain a fraction of that PPV money Conor is making the UFC.

Connor is a good fighter, Lesnar was just an athletic freak of nature; his talents were 80% athletics/20% fighting capability (though I was thoroughly impressed with his win over Carwin). I don't see the UFC totally disregarding matchmaking logics, it's just that those fights aren't getting the same publicity that they should. And there are fights that make sense (Aldo/McG, Alvarez/Khabib) that are getting washed over in order to appeal to the masses.
In short, I agree the matchmaking isn't ideal for pure fighters, but because of the sensationalized matchmaking those pure fighters have more opportunities for success afforded to them.

People that have a problem really are bitter and jealous....there is no other way of putting it. A fellow human is killing it and some just wanna hate rather than join the buffet called life: Just Do It!

Harsh, but true....

You sound exactly as what the problem is.

It's interesting, what would happen if they did a World Tour with Holloway and Pettis. Would there be any beef, would they sell even over 500K ppvs if it was pushed like cray? Would it just be a waste of money/bad business move?

Conor just has it, UFC just gave it a little push. Heck, before he got to the UFC, they were chanting his song in the crowds, people were going INSANE at his shows, it was total and absolute bonkers. In his 5th pro fight in east ass butt, he had more friends and passion in his following than Mighty Mouse doth now!

Anyone with real knowledge knows training partners you never heard of can beat champs on any given day. It's largely luck and hype since very beginning who determines stars. Conor is just that symptom in spades

Even in UFC 1.0 little Royce Gracie was not the best Gracie. Just had his bothers who was promoter shine.

It's Conor's fault for being too much bitch to want to defend the belt.

As far as Connor having it; you get no arguments from me. I was a fan of him long before the "red panty" interview. As far as your world tour remarks; sad but true... I love both of those guys but they don't have the "it factor" that would bolster their market share. This is where we need guys like Chael, Brock, and Connor to build public interest (almost typed pubic interest...) in the sport for the betterment of all.
