Funny how people tear their own clothes claiming that the UFC "Is a circus now". We've seen way worse. Probably one of the worse fuckups was the Pulver/Penn screwjob.
For the benefit of the noobs:
Then lightweight champ Jens Pulver was lowballed to death and then refused a new contract and stripped due to the unforgivable sin of beating BJ Penn. Then, with the competition out of the way, Zuffa organized a four-man tourney to decide the new champion (Obstensibly organized so BJ Penn could get his belt with an air) of legitimacy.
As BJ Penn managed to screw it again, Zuffa just ditched the lightweight belt and eventually the whole division until late 2006 (Some weeks after BJ decided to go back to lightweight)
BJ Penn was rewarded for this double failure with an instant tittle shot to the welterweight division, when he finally was able to get his belt, inmediately returning the favor to Zuffa by leaving the promotion and suing them.
Despite that, the good part of the shertard community has Penn in their little altars, while being outraged with Can-or, that at least won his belt fair and square.
