attempt to put asses in the seats and eyes on the screen. You can't say it illegitimizes UFC, because Phil Brooks has already done that single-handedly. Which could have been his purpose in the UFC all along, take the heat off of other nonsensical fights. But Conor is making Brocks undeserved title path/shot look reasonable. It's odd to a casual but it IS just business, which is why the UFC keeps the most deserving (undefeated Khabib) away from the title, while the least deserving (Mcgregor) are given first priority.

I see it as a group of investors wanting their 4 billion dollars back any way they can.

So it's money fights from now!

Rankings be damn
Titles be damn
Win/Loses be damned.

We are in the WWE era now boys.

Well, that logic is a little flawed. It's wwe when you bring wwe (phil brooks) into ufc. The sport has become a popularity contest.

UFC has better storylines than WWE sadly

Randy Couture got a heavyweight title shot coming off two KO losses to Chuck Liddell and a win over Mike Van Arsdale at LHW.

This is nothing new.

Oh yeah, and he won AND defended the HW title BTW.

BJ Penn was given a WW title shot having never won a UFC fight at WW. He won the title.

BJ Penn was later given a WW title shot directly after LOSING a welterweight fight to GSP. He did not win the title fight.

BJ Penn was later given another WW title shot, having a record of 1-2 at WW in the UFC. He did not win the belt.

it's wwe in that promos and trash talking get you the money fights...and not so much your record or accomplishments.

You can bet your ass they would make John Cena vs Stipe Miocic in a heartbeat if they knew that fight would sell 2 million PPVs.

You know Dana would have already booked cm punk's next fight by now if that card ended up selling 1 million PPVs.

It is.

Reason why they just announced it now
And Dana said a few days ago that it was Eddie/Khabib

In the end, they gave in.

No way??!! How dare they try to sell tickets and make money??!!

This is ultimate fighting damnit...how dare people confuse it with entertainment!!

Rankings be damn

Conor is #4 P4P in the world (Eddie is #7). He just beat the current #4 LW in the world. Which is to say his most recent win is over a higher ranked LW than either Khabib's or Ferguson's last wins. Ferguson's best win is against the current #5 LW (Barboza). Khabib's best win is against the current #1 LW but it was over 2 and a half years ago. His inactivity has undermined his stake at a title shot.

Titles be damn

It is a title fight. A deserving contender who is a champion in the lower division is trying to win a second belt at a higher weight division. The fight is given an even greater sense of importance because it is a title fight.

Win/Loses be damned.

Conor is 8 - 1 in the UFC. Undefeated in FW having faced all of the current best (Holloway, Mendes, Aldo) apart from Edgar. He knocked out the P4P best in the world in 13 seconds and has just beaten (how many times does this have to be pointed out to you) the current #4 LW in the world. All of that adds up to making him a legitimate LW title contender.

We are in the WWE era now boys.

You are in la la land.

Its actually Dana's way of throwing Conor to the wolves. But Conor is revenant.

To me, the biggest sacrifice is not the legitimacy of the 145 or 155 pound divisions, its Conor's neurological health. Conor's already had two wars this year and once again he's fighting a bigger man with outstanding striking. Three beatings over the course of 8 months could take years off his prime.

Once again, the UFC is showing a willingness to drive their fighters into the ground. If you don't protect yourself, no one will.

Using UFC rankings lol

I was responding to a post that said "Rankings don't matter". If the poster wants them to matter then he has to acknowledge first that Conor is ranked higher than Eddie at P4P and also that Conor has beaten a higher ranked current LW (Diaz #4) than Ferguson's best win (Barboza #5). Take into consideration then that Khabib has been inactive and only fought once in 2 and a half years, then Conor getting the title shot is perfectly defensible given the other options.

As to using UFC rankings. Well, whatever their faults, they're the ones everyone is basing their complaints on (Khabib being #1 should have got the title shot for example)
