It's incredible how similar the biggest draws in MMA and boxing Conor and Canelo are

1) Conor is Irish and wants to be Mexican like El Chapo, imitating his style several times and referencing him, speaking Spanish etc. Canelo is a Mexican who looks like he's Irish. Both are gingers (well Conor is sort of ginger-blonde and has ginger beard).

2) They're similar size (around 160 lbs is their optimal weight). They're both "manlets" as the haters would say.

3) Both are hugely popular in their own country

4) Both of them are technical boxers and counter-punchers with power and timing

5) They're both draining themselves to fight smaller guys. Canelo is known as "drainelo" in boxing and he had no problem fighting Amir Khan for MW title, a guy who fought most of his career 3 weight classes lower. Conor made much of his career fighting midgets. Both are the biggest guys in their preferable weight classes (Canelo at light-MW and Conor at FW).

6) They both want the Mayweather fight.

7) They're both known for ducking and cherry picking their opponents looking for stylistically favorable opponents at different weight classes and bigger money fights instead, using their A-side status and popularity to get what they want.

8) They both have no problems relinquishing their title rather than defending it against mandatory challengers. They both say that "belts don't matter" when it's convenient to do so, otherwise they bring those belts everywhere.

9) They're both liked by the judges in Las Vegas, edging those close decisions.

10) They both have an undefeated fighter from ex-Soviet area who's a stylistic nightmare for them haunting them (Golovkin / Khabib).

It's just crazy how many similarities there are between the two biggest PPV draws in combat sports at the moment. I guess this is the kind of fighter that is liked in USA right now...

The big HW fighters aren't liked anymore, now it's all about being a "manlet" and drama queen

Except Conor isn't a coward.

He ran through adversity. Every damn time.

He ran through adversity. Every damn time.

He's running from his mandatory challenger just like Canelo and will likely drop the belt just the same unless UFC is even more corrupt than WBC

Canelo has actually fought his stylistic nightmare opponents several times (Lara, Trout, Floyd) and with them having a full camp

Conor is not known for ducking or cherrypicking. Delete this dumb thread.

only one of them does 1.5mil+ ppvs on the regular tho

Beats any PPV Conor will ever have (2.2 mil).

TS, you're trying way too hard. Canelo isn't ducking GGG. Conor ko'd Aldo in 13 seconds.

He's like a couple dudes, at least; Josh Mario John being one of them, Canelo being the other.

As an avid mma fan and supporter (yes, fight pass plus actually BUYING the ppv's!) I'd posit that Conor will sell these numbers if he stays in the game and keeps his head there too.

I'm still wondering whether people are serious with this swagger jacker thing or just trolling.

The "ginger" and "ex-Soviet" area opponent analogy is dubious as hell.

Just quit.
