Why Don't Guys With Crazy Footwork Like Cruz and Wonderboy Use a Pankration Guard?

Guys like Cruz and Wonderboy don't need to block punches with a boxing-glove hands up guard too often because their crazy footwork puts them out of range and at bad angles all the time.

The bad part is that they lose opportunities to throw straight power.

These guys have both their arms continuously positioned and cocked to throw insane power as quickly as possible.

Their lead arm is in a position with half the jab range already covered for quick snaps, and also is in position to simply rotate the core for a quick power hook or lead uppercut. The rear hand is in a position for brutally fast overhands.


Also, parrying and catching the opponents hands is much easier in this stance. So, for someone that doesn't use the boxing-glove guard much like Cruz or Wonder Boy, it would actually give them more defensive ability.

No one's tried it yet. But I could see this fixing some of the weaknesses in Cruz and Wonder Boy's already incredibly striking styles, and, even though they're the best, make them even better. They could go from decision guys to 1 round KO guys while still having 5-round ability and not being able to be hit.

Because those strikes are hard to land on a moving, elite skilled and trained opponent, also throwing kicks and punches that way leaves you out of position when you miss.

Because great foot movement requires use of upper extremity movement. Keeping them in that position will only hinder their "bread and butter".
