Just rewatched the fight again. Maia did exactly what he wanted from first second to submission 90 seconds or so later.

Can't help but feel incredibly impressed, not just because he beat a extremely high level and experienced opponent, but how he did it. It must be one of the more impressive wins of all time when considering complete domination and executing a game plan.

Others that come to mind are:
RDA vs Pettis
Bones vs Shogun
Anderson vs Forresr

What do you think? What other fights/fighters have displayed the same type of dominance over an on paper top opponent?

Maia has been doing this for like his last 5 fights where have you been.

This was extra special cos it was Condit, who usually never gets finished.

The move to 170 was an excellent choice for Maia...He now has the ability to take his opponents to the mat and use his BJJ. Whereas at 185 he was having difficulty with his opponents size and strength..

When I read the title, the first thing that popped to mind was RDA vs Pettis. Or even RDA vs Bendo.

tyron knocking out lawler and bisping knocking out rockhold way more impressive imo.

carlos conduit has the worst take down defense in UFC and is super aggressive off his back so he just played right into maia's strengths

Maia's run @WW is looking promising again after those two dec loses to McD and Shields, he has always flown under the radar with how good his actual skill set is for MMA. I hope DW and Company realize he's a legit contender for the belt and they are losing their hold on the Brazilian audience cause their champs keep losing titles. Give this man a title shot or at a minimum a TS eliminator fight.

Last week when Rumble KO'd Glover with the first punch he landed.

Cerrone just finished Story who had never been finished at MW or WW

Yeah, but nobody saw that coming. Look at how many people predicted a Cowboy TKO compared to how many predicted Maia winning by sub, it's not even close.

It's impressive because he's now at the point where it's clear; you know what's coming, you can prepare for it, but you simply aren't going to stop it. Condit probably drilled that exact scenario until he was doing it in his sleep, and Maia needed less than 2 minutes. Just insane.

I really like maia,i just think the guy HAS to get the fight to the ground, otherwise he is sunk. Some of his sloppy shots against Matt Brown just make it hard for me to get behind him.

Larkin?

Barao vs. Dillashaw
Aldo vs. McGregor
Pettis vs. RDA
Rousey vs. Holm
Magny vs. Larkin
Rockhold vs. Bisping

Just a handful that come to mind.

A number of Ronda's fights, Davis, Cat, McMann

When have we seen a future champ as boring as Maia?

Conor v Aldo much more impressive. He also called it and executed much quicker.

Plus a KO > Sub 25/8.

Fedor vs Tim Sylvia
Fedor vs Big Nog 1
Igor vs Mark Kerr 2
Cro Cop vs Aleks
Werdum vs Cain
Shogun vs Arona
Rampage vs Arona
Lil Nog vs Overeem 1&2
BJ Penn vs Diego Sanchez
Aldo vs Faber

etc etc

Easy question. Wonderboy knocking out Hendricks in the 1st round. Who saw that coming?
Good luck on Demian on that title shot.
