Rory has made several pro "Fighters Union" statements. He's had several tweets about fighters sticking together. And as soon as he did that, the writing was on the wall. They refused to negotiate a new contract even though Rory gave them 2 big wars. And I knew they were not going to match Bellator's offer.

Benson Henderson had the same type of attitude towards UFC and they did him dirty too.

Rory is a top 3 WW. He has a win over the current champion and he's been through 2 of the biggest wars the UFC has ever had and he's still only 27. The UFC would never let a fighter like him go had he not made those Pro Union statements.

Now the PFA has one less fighter to sign.

I just assumed that he didnt want to have to start from scratch a jump through hoops again to get another WW title shot especially with how rankings and championships seem to not matter anymore in this current state of UFC.

Even if you have a point, its their right to fire or not re-sign anyone they feel like its being a nuisance.

Well if they did 'get rid' of Rory its because he's damaged goods imo.

He aint going very far with a chronically broken sinus passage.

Got rid of? He left. They tired to get him back, but couldn't match the deal. UFC problem is they cut out the sponsors, and they were making most of the money from sponsors. It is the same reason GSP isn't back.

Isn't he back?

UFC 206 in Toronto?

If it's obvious, why the need for a thread about it?

Nah...they don't need guys like Rory clogging things up at WW. He's a drag because he'll pick off all the up and comers, but he'll 'never' be champ.

It's better for everyone involved for him to go to Bellator.

Bellator gets another good signing, and a guy that can bring more eyes to their shows. He'll especially help them get into the Canadian market.

Rory probably got a great deal, assuredly more than the UFC was willing to pay. He'll probably get an immediate title shot, and he'll probably be a dominant champ over there--all good things.

Fixed.

Rory is damaged goods at this point. That beak will never heal properly, and it's an easy target.

They probably got rid of him because he asked for more money than he brought in return to the company.

Their Canadian market is now non existent. Not sure what their plans are.

People are forgetting he just had a kid. Plus if his first bellator fight is gonna be early next year that means he would have had 2 fights in the two years.

Ufc doesn't pay enough.

Going a bit overboard there...

He just had to survive 1 more round with Lawler and he would have been the champ and he already beat the current champ.

TS: GTFO. Rory/UFC both know he's had ample opportunity to get the WW strap and he's come up short on multiple occasions. Whether or not he advocates for unionized labor in the UFC is besides the point.

the man doesn't make anything close to what some of the biggest ufc fighters make, but he puts out excellent work as a top tier fighter. so i guess there must be an underlying reason(s) as to why he was let go. a shame, the guy is top shelf material for sure. good luck rory.

'Never'

Scare quotes were deliberate.

Take the tinfoil hat off. Rory left primarily to get paid, and good for him.
