Excuse my ignorance but what exactly would happen in this case?

Would the champion get his belt back?

the person who tested positive gets burnt at the stake. Not sure what happens to the belt though

I believe that it is unprecedented. I would assume that the champ getting his belt back would come down to how marketable the UFC sees him as.

Randy didn't when Barnett beat him and failed a test, and that's the only example I know of. he did get to fight for it immediately after though. It would depend on what UFC wanted to do.

This has happened at least once before, ish, with Josh Barnett. He won the title, tested positive, and his title was stripped. Couture was given a shot at the vacant belt, but they didn't give him his title back outright (he lost the title fight as well).
