Honestly I don't see why the UFC doesn't start paying for alternates. You train and get ready, medicals, the whole deal. Obviously this only makes sense in specific marquee fights, but this is one of them.

Cough up a small flat fee like 10k and then a per diem for fight week to be an alternate when you're not preparing for another fight.
