Chad's suspension was no big loss. His career was essentially over.

After fighting his way back to another title shot, he fails. Hence he was in Rich Franklin limbo.

Then he loses to the then future champ in McGregor.

Then he gets KO'd by Frankie.

He got beat by arguably the best three FWs almost back to back to back.

What else was there for him except to just be another guy on the roster?

Finally, he's a PED cheat. The sport doesn't need him.

Go beat up Dillashaw . The UFC would have encouraged it so TJ had to risk 1 more fight to get his belt he never lost.

Drop some mass and go to BW where Chad's T-Rex frame won't be as hampering.

It's loss for him considering that's how he made his living?

But in Mendes defence, if you were wiped off the face of the Earth it wouldn't be a big loss because you're just another average dude.

Real fans of MMA can enjoy fights without knowing anything about title implications.

The Franklin rule should only be used when the former champ loses to the same guy twice.

Mendes is no champ.

Out of all the dumb things that are said regularly by fight fans, this is one of the dumbest. There's a massive difference between being in limbo as regards title shots and your career being over. The fighters get paid per fight. They are prizefighters. No doubt being champ is a huge goal of any near the top, but it's not the end all and be all of fighting. Chad has proved he's a solid top five and he gave Aldo and McGregor both a hell of a fight.

The time off will probably help him. Like Machida, he came back too soon after being TKOed hard and then got KOed.

Yep, a 17-4 Top 5 FW who lost to the top 3 was completely done in the sport. His only option was to retire. This is pretty silly even by Sherdog standards.

yeah right cause theres no more fights for him at all in the UFC, is he even in the top 100 anymore?

This if you get brutally beat down or TKO'd brutally then I think you should take like 8-10 months off, I think Freddie Roach wants his fighters to take a year off after getting KO'ed but maybe that was a specific circumstance

Conor lost to unranked Duffy, why is he even in the UFC?

This is a horrible way to go about this.

We lost a guy who help put on the best FW fight in recent history, possibly of all time. The same guy who led to a pivotal moment in the current champ's rise to the top. Chad was an exciting fighter who ran into a murderers row of competition, but who would still destroy most of the division.

He's said on multiple occasions that he could drop to BW, so we lost the possibility of that title run as well. I'd have given an arm and a leg to see Mendes/Lineker or Mendes/Dodson

It's pretty crazy how he had such a back and forth war with Aldo, and gets knocked out by Edgar..and then Aldo just bats Edgar away like nothing has changed after their first encounter.

Well hopefully he invested his money into something

2 years is around 6 fights he miss, he loses around 250k at least.

He could just be a perennial mid tier guy like 9/10 of the ufc roster

He will make money teaching classes and doing camps

I really think he didn't fight his suspension because he knew he was gonna take some serious time off. He needed it anyway.

He's not done yet. He has to go down to 135, that is his division.

At 145? I agree. It would have been interesting to see him drop to 135 though. He'll have plenty of time to lose some muscle mass now.
