So this is my first official post on sherdog and as such I'm expecting nothing, however, that being said I have wanted to get an opinion on this besides my own.
What opinion? Well for the last few months now we've seen a number of guys and ladies within the sport of mma take on an increasingly bold and aggressive attitude as a way of marketing themselves. My opinion is that a lot of them have stumbled upon this concept like it was some hidden key to success that never occurred to them and now, suddenly, they are putting on this air of "I don't care what anyone thinks, pay me!" Some of them have always been that way like Donald Cerrone, the Diaz brothers, and a few others, and some seem like they are trying too hard.
I guess what it all comes down to as a matter of opinion is simply, who do you think is genuine in their attitude and who is not? And I guess who would you say is the original in this sense or is there a grouping of individuals you'd identify as being the start?
Personally I think it all goes back to guys like Dan Severn, Don Frye, Bas Rutten, Gerard Gordeau, Tank Abbott, dare I say Tito Ortiz, The Diaz Brothers for sure. They all seem to legitimately not care what anyone thought. There are obviously others as well, that was off the top of my head.
As for the pretenders, I think Rousey, Kennedy, Conor, Jones, Sonnen to name a few, I think it's an act an they do care way too much. Again there are many more. Just naming a few off the top.
And of course then there is Brock Lesnar, who is entirely in a category of his own...don't know what that guy is thinking besides "did I cycle off early enough to not get caught?"
OK hit me with the opinions and critique.
