I always think about how in MMA things can be decided so quickly and so randomly. Sometimes fights go long and shock but sometimes lightning hits and you get to sit there with a handful of now obsolete thoughts: "who should Silva fight after he beats this Weidman kid" - "Hendo needs to retire Lombards gonna injure him" - "this Aldo/McGregor fight should be a war"

And then lightning strikes. So let's discuss lightning that never hit the ground;

Rory's immediate attempt to get Thompson's leg. Imagine you're in a parallel universe where he got the leg, and Thompson tapped a minute in. Immediately puts Rory at a title shot? Do we call it a fluke or incredible gamesmanship? What then for Wonderboy? How far back does he go? How much steam would that have given Rory? How much is Rory's new contract?!

I almost can't imagine the scenario at all because it's insane. I think Rory would have immediately been declared a better fighter than him in the last Lawler fight, he would be seen as a returned man possessed with a plan for everyone in his way.

Instead we talk about how Lawler broke him and he needs an overhaul. To me the difference was one second. So let's rewind that clock and play what if:

I like where this thread is going

Wow. And to think if this was about Ronda looking chubby or McGregor getting a new tattoo I'd be at 5 pages already...

Sorry for making a thread for people who wanna read and discuss MMA, I'm clearly in the wrong place....

If the OP made any sense at all you might get some decent feedback/discussion.

Think w/ bigger scope.

If Rory gets the ankle and ends it, all that stuff may happen, but since Lawler already caved in his face, the next guy to target the schnozz would be the one that would make every one start talking about Rory and Bellator.

It's basically just a delay of the same play out.

But for that brief moment in time, yes, you'd be correct in thinking that there would be 100 doggers calling him teh New Breed/GOAT/P4P Red King/etc.

What doesn't make sense? Do you need me to explain what a metaphor is? Do you need help thinking beyond only what is and what happened? You don't seem stupid, so please, explain.

Hey a smart fan!

Do you think Rory isn't immediately pushed though? Who would he get next while we wait for Lawker/Woodley to settle itself? To me they have to try to push him hard and fast, it's an easy sell on MMA>Specialists and who more than Rory embodies the all around game.

Id sit him until the winner of the title fight is free while constantly reminding people what he did until it becomes attraction like. The inevitable gif and hype would carry the steam around places like this.

Set up Wonderboy/Condit and Maia/Loser of the title fight, and give whoever looks the best in a win the shot after Rory's.

It's almost like I wanted other people's thoughts on it. Like I wanted to start some kind of "discussion" or something...

If you guys are that illiterate, copy-paste some smart fans thoughts as quick as the redundant gifs.

In fighting, everyone is a can once he loses. So, what if Rory gets the sub? Well Wonderboy becomes overrated and nothing special. What if Ellenberger finishes Wonderboy off after dropping him? Karate is overrated…

What if Shogun stops Machida? Machida was always overrated. Karate fighters can't win if their opponent can close the distance.

The point is that there is no mystery to the what ifs… The moment someone loses, their stock drops a significant amount and on Sherdog they become cans.

Legend has it that Rory is still attempting that stupid roll for the ankle to this day.

@Wizzlebiz if this is too hard you can always go back to the my little pony forum you got your name from. I bet all they do there is post overused garbage, you'll be loved!

Yeah Sherdog has made itself clear, I was more looking for thoughts from the readers and thinkers here. Seems this place is getting way low on those.

I wanna go make a thread called "OMG isn't Ronda the grossest?!?" just to watch it get 10000 more views in 5 mins than this will ever get. Oh sherdog....
