Seemed like maybe even a year went before he officialy signed since the first people started chiming in on here that he was considering it. That's some Ariel journalism
 
He was often comenting about MMA in his twitter and picking the wrong winner and mentioning training it. When he ended his contract they probably went after the reason and found out he asked for it and UFC gave him a chance. It was something that would easily happen if he wanted and he did.
 
He told me and he also told me to get supporters here on sherdog.

Whenever he got interviewed by Helwani he would always hit at something brewing.

The UFC trotted CM Punk out during an event when they signed him. I wanna say it was the same one that Rampage fought in the UFC while under Bellator contract.
