So UFC fighters sign contracts, and then complain? Managers?

I get this constant ongoing being unpaid idea, but did they not know this when their managers finalized their contracts?

They obviously did, so is it the idea that the big show will bring more to your name, that taking a lower wage would eventually even itself out?

This is due to guys like Cerrone just sounding off or even Rory the past few months.

I know man. I'm glad this kind of thing never happens in other sports.

Public pressure is the only leverage a lot of fighters have. So why not use it to get a bigger pay cheque?

I never understand posters who support the idea that fighters signed a contract so they should 'shut up and stay loyal' when they have zero job security and can be dropped because Lorenzo is on his period.

It is what it is. Maybe if people actually bought more events fighters can get more money.

The demand simply isn't there to supply these fighters with more than they have on contract. If the fighters can create the demand, so be it, and let them renegotiate their contract, but demand is generated by being awesome in the ring and by marketing yourself well, not by whining on twitter or in interviews with whiny MMA journalists.

Fighters: if you want to get paid more, prove your worth in the cage. Put up or shut up. Destroy your opponents. With impunity. Put them away like they didn't belong there with you. Just Bleed. And the fans will eat you up and give you their hard earned cash.

Yeah it sucks. If you can't see both sides you haven't been paying attention though.

They need to start a union. Every pro sport has a union, except boxing which is run by promoters. And thats why boxing has 4 championships for every 3 pounds. There's like 70 boxers wearing a strap right now, and they all get to handpick their next opponent. MMA needs to be like other pro sports. Every pro MMA fighter, under the same banner, with rules to protect them. They need to figure out how to create a Union, or they are destined to be like boxing, where a few handpicked guys get to be at the top, and everyone else just has to live off whatever breadcrumbs fall their way.

MMA needs a union. The UFC is making too much money off the backs to their fighters.

The fighters are bad business men and the owners are taking advantage of that. The percentage of revenue that the owners keep is much higher than in other sports. It's way out of balance, because fighter pay hasn't kept pace with the growth of the sport. Early on there wasn't much revenue to go around , so fighters got conditioned to accept low pay. Now, revenue is exponentially more than it had been, yet fighter pay is relatively low. This has been done intentionally by the ownership to enrich themselves. No owner is going to pay more than they are forced to. That's why the other sports leagues eventually formed a union. For some reason their aren't enough lawyers interested in doing that with the UFC. It's probably because they don't think the sport will last. The sport is always just one tragedy away from losing public support and a large percentage of its fan base.

Because zuffa as owner and promotion shares small % of revenue to fighters.

why u think DW who came from boxercise has been worth more than don king, bob arum. DW made all his money from this "infancy sport" in a fraction of the time.

its the pay out ration and revenue share that is hindering the sport's development.

This shit again? It doesn't matter that they signed the contracts. If the contracts were unfair, they should be scrapped.

Or you know they could flip burgers or learn a trade.

No one forced them to sign on the dotted line that said...

P.S. "WE OWN YOUR SOUL, DANCE MONKEY, DANCE"

Lots of jobs are like that. Firemen, police, teachers, nurses. The salaries aren't really a secret but become a problem when people realize what they're doing isn't worth that to them.

Things would probably be different if Pride were still around. Alas, Pride is dead.

Use and abuse, thats the game, the fighters are nothing more than livestock for the leagues, replaceable.

Damm Dana is more rich than Bob Arum and Don King together

Fight somewhere else where the contract is better.
Fight for an org that allows you to take fights in other orgs.
Get sponsors.
If you don't rise to the top of the profession quickly, make alternate plans.

Seriously, how many guys do we see on TUF who have a wife/kids at home and are bringing home no bread?
