Some fights should be 3x3 rounds

Coming on the heels of McMann-Eye.

I don't know a lot about boxing but I've seen and heard of 4 rounds, 6 rounds, 8 rounds, 10 rounds, and 12 rounds. Am I right? How are the number of rounds determined for each fight?

So why does MMA stick to the 3x5 rounds for every single fight and 5x5 for main events? They should mix it up. Not by increasing or decreasing the number of rounds but the minutes per round.
