Isn't it crazy that this fight actually happened and that Wanderlei actually made it competitive?

What a crazy freakshow of a fight.

Edit: Video of the fight was removed.

But, damn. That was almost 12 years ago? Feels like it was 10 or something.

Damn Wanderlei was big, nice submission defence by Mark there, and 18:35 damn.

Here are the highlights, gotta love it.

That's Pride for ya.

One night you see Mirko Crocop vs Fedor Emelianenko in a historic fight and another night you get to see Butterbean keylock Zuluzinho

LHW today die cutting weight to duck HWs..

War Wand!

Meanwhile we have Anderson-GSP removed from history because 5lbs was an absolute asinine amount of weight for them to agree on. What the hell happened to this sport.

There's no word to lable that other than cowardly IMO. The absolute textbook example for dudes turning into laughable diva's over not wanting to lose.
That's a fucking stain on both of their career potentials. Whoever won that fight would have had ridiculous weight on their side for greatest ever in the sport. Instead they both lost ground. Poetic.

And now days people are bitching when someone goes up in weight class and loses.

Wanderlei Silva was literally one fight and 2 months removed from knocking out Rampage a second time, and fought super heavyweight kickboxing champion Mark Hunt. He had no reason to take the fight, but PRIDE had fighters who wanted to stay active and fight at every event, so you get guys who stick in people's brains like Wanderlei and Fedor. They don't make em like they used to.

The fight originally scheduled was Wand VS. Sakuraba 4 but was changed at the last minute.

It's really not that crazy

Mark Hunt was 1-1 at that point, and had already lost to a MW -- a guy Wanderlei beat. The judges gave Wand heaps of extra credit for the weight disparity too.

I think that fight looks better now in hindsight.

If there is one thing you can't deny to Wandy is that he is a Real fighter thru and thru.

Dude wtf. A MW taking on Mark Hunt on 24 hours notice under Pride rules. For no goddamn reason at all, just for the hell of it.

It's absolutely crazy. Don't overthink it.

A lot of people here were REALLY unhappy with that match-up. Glad it didn't happen.

Middleweight was 203 in pride right?

I still remember Lorenzo Fertitta mocking Pacman and Money for not getting their fight done while lauding the UFC for doing superfights that in the end never became reality.
