Recently there have been attacks on the records of Anderson, Shogun, BJ, Liddell and even Aldo who lost 1 fight.
Sure we can look at present fighters and say that they are better than the old guard and I would agree but why? These guys were the best at the time and did some awesome stuff, when Shogun won the GP it was amazing, when BJ beat hughes it was a "wow" moment, when Anderson ran through the MW division it was amazing to watch, sure we can go back and say some of their opponents were not the best by todays standards but thats what was around at the time.
As a fighter you fight whos in front of you, so if you get Joe Stevenson, Chris Leben or Cyrille Diabate you fight them and if you are really that great you destroy them, which they did.
We can talk about going down in history but isnt it really all about the present? When these guys had these accomplishments it was great, when BJ rnc Hughes we werent thinking about 10 years later, we were in shock thinking "holy shit!", if you would have said "meh that wasnt impressive" you would of been chewed out and told you dont know shit about MMA, these are the moments that make a fighter legendary and live in peoples minds and that isnt something you can take away from them, no matter how many losses when they are old and worn out.
Respect these legends.
