Stop nitpicking old fighters records and making it seem like the present defines them.

Recently there have been attacks on the records of Anderson, Shogun, BJ, Liddell and even Aldo who lost 1 fight.

Sure we can look at present fighters and say that they are better than the old guard and I would agree but why? These guys were the best at the time and did some awesome stuff, when Shogun won the GP it was amazing, when BJ beat hughes it was a "wow" moment, when Anderson ran through the MW division it was amazing to watch, sure we can go back and say some of their opponents were not the best by todays standards but thats what was around at the time.

As a fighter you fight whos in front of you, so if you get Joe Stevenson, Chris Leben or Cyrille Diabate you fight them and if you are really that great you destroy them, which they did.

We can talk about going down in history but isnt it really all about the present? When these guys had these accomplishments it was great, when BJ rnc Hughes we werent thinking about 10 years later, we were in shock thinking "holy shit!", if you would have said "meh that wasnt impressive" you would of been chewed out and told you dont know shit about MMA, these are the moments that make a fighter legendary and live in peoples minds and that isnt something you can take away from them, no matter how many losses when they are old and worn out.

Respect these legends.

Aldo gets shit on so bad because of just 13 seconds of poor performance. 10 consecutive championship wins disregarded instantly.

While I agree, this is Sherdog.

I dunno man

Some of those guys did lose fights

So it's like, were they ever really good? Sherdog might be onto something here...

it really is dumb. No respect for history, what matters is RIGHT NOW, even though Sherdog HATES right now.

Shogun got his soul stolen by a 23 year old JBJ and it was hilarious

Best TS. This thread is your second best tho "im not done talking. little boy" is the best

The majority of Sherdog are 100% retarded followers. Don't let anything on here bother you.

Every fighter has a limited time where they're in their athletic prime. How long it lasts depends on a number of factors, but it's usually extremely evident when they're in it and when they're out of it.

Agree. Every accomplishment needs to be viewed in the context of its time.

Apart from in the case of Shogun, where according to his fans he reenters his prime every time he wins a fight, then has been out of it for ages it when he loses.

In due time, all legends are remembered for what they did at their best. No one remembers Michael Jordan for the time he spent with the Wizards.

The same posters complaining about those dumping on Shogun, Liddell, Silva, etc. are the same posters that dumped on Shamrock, Gracie, Severn, and Kimo. What goes around comes around. Those that act as elitist are usually the most ignorant.
