This guy had one good year, and people act like he's a legend because of it. He only beat three top ranked fighters in Pride, which was of course Page (who Page himself said he fought on short notice and injured, but just to keep the nuthuggers happy, I won't hold it against Shogun), Arona, and Lil Nog. Reem and Randleman were both mid level guys in Pride. That's not nearly enough for Legend status. Not to mention he started getting owned once he came to the UFC. And the excuses was "Shogun was getting injured knees due to his wars in Pride!" But he didn't take much damage in his Pride fights. Only fights were he had a lot of damage was the Nog fight and the Coleman fight, but that was a broken arm and he's never had any arm problems afterwords. And he was only in the fight game since 2002, and came to the UFC at 2007. That's only five years, and he was still in his twenties. He didn't get "out of his prime" in the UFC. His best win in the UFC was when he beat Machida, and his second best being Griffin. Everyone else he beat were mid level or washed up. He couldn't even defend the belt once. Yet people act like him winning the belt was such a big deal when in fact the belt was being passed around at that time by a huge chunk of fighters (Evans, Forest, Lyoto, Page). "But, but, but... 2005!" Seems to be the main arugement here. It's funny how whenever a guy starts getting destroyed in the UFC, he's all of a sudden out of his prime. He literelly came in the UFC the same year after as his last Pride fight. You're telling me he somehow got "old" in the span of a few months? It's like with Cro Cop getting KTFO by Gonzaga. People were screaming that Cro Cop was coming of his best performance of his career before entering the UFC, and how in 2006 he was fighter of the year. And then he got KTFO a year later. So how did he go from Best fighter of the year to being out of his prime, huh? And people actually consider this guy to be a "legend". If he's a legend, then that says a lot about MMA fans.
I get it though, Pride fans come up with a great amount of excuses when a guy doesn't do good, but will salivate at the mouth at the ones who did make it in the UFC. It's like they only say things that make Pride look good and saying anything "bad" about Pride fighter is a sin to them.
