First of all I don't practice Sambo I do wrestling and Judo. Second I'm talking about as a stand alone martial art in regards how complete it is vs other martial arts. I know the best option nowadays is a MMA gym but around the world is not as common as in the U.S

Sambo vs All the striking arts

Sambo wins due to the fact that teach good enough striking to survive against specialist strikers and easily take them down and submit them.

Sambo vs other grappling arts

Vs wrestlers is piece of cake the wrestler gets submitted

Vs Judo the Judoka won't be able to beat the Samboist for the simple fact that Sambo is equally good for twrows and on the ground o even better because it has nasty leg locks and in the striking department the Judoka would be helpless.

Vs BJJ a tough BJJ guy could submit the Samboist for sure that problem is that BJJ takedowns good enough against strikers but super poor compared to the Samboist level of wrestling, takedowns and throwa. A Samboist could easily avoid a BJJ y takedowns and beat him standing. Even if the BJJ guy take him down by chance, Sambo ia food enough to neutralize BJJ for a while.

Sambo is a great base for mixfight. Striking, throws and submissions with a lot of emphasis on leglocks which are under appreciated IMO.

Still you need more than just sambo these days. You need to specialize in your striking, wrestling and even if you're great at sambo I think rolling with good BJJ guys would benefit you greatly.

Well, Sport Sambo and Combat Sambo are different things firstly.

Secondly, there isn't a best martial art IMO but I see what you mean and the fact that combat sambo teaches a variety of techniques for every situation certainly makes it a top contender for most practical. That's for sure.

Combat Sambo, which is what you are talking about, IS a mixed martial art not a single martial art.

Saying Sambo is "a martial art" is like saying MMA is "a martial art." It's just a pragmatic mix of different techniques meant to make a well-rounded fighter.

Instead of spending my time training striking, wrestling and subs within a Sambo context, I'd probably rather spend my time training kickboxing, wrestling and BJJ outside of it.

So no, it's not the best martial art because it's basically just training MMA in a formalized system.

Our definitions of sambo are very different

No such thing as a best martial art.

Would you agree that eggs benedict is the best breakfast ?

How many champions in the UFC do sampo ? There's your answer.

Prime Fedor was arguably the single most dangerous specimen to ever fight mma, he was probably also the first guy you could say was fully rounded. Combat Sambo undoubtedly played a big part in this but he also had a high level Judo background too.

Russian sambo is basically mma lol. Cant even really call it a singular martial art.

Probably some martial art that trains with weapons would shit on sambo

Well there's a guy who dominated the current LW champion and probably will be champion soon, along with a Pride champ who beat numerous UFC champions. Proportionately it could be argued that Sambo is incredibly effective. I can probably only think of a handful of guys with Sambo backgrounds most are considered good fighters.

Sambo's got nothing on UFC Fighting
