Dana is like a child that gets a new toy, thinks its the best thing ever for a couple of weeks then throws it in the garbage when something new comes along
If you were following the sport at that time, which was when GSP was on the shelf with the knee injury, you would know that Dana would basically say that every champ not named Silva was P4P #2 right before and after they had a successful title defence.
So, as per usual, you shouldn't take anything that Dana has to say seriously.
The closer you get to the top of the listings, the harder it is to differentiate. For what it's worth though, I think Edgar was/continues to be very overlooked in the P4P discussion. The crucial aspect that does not get the attention it deserves is how small Edgar was for LW. He's not even a big FW. Of course he came in before they added the lower weight classes but that just means he was fighting up the whole time as he went on to knock BJ Penn from the LW throne. It just sucks that he got Ben-cisioned not once but twice (or at least once depending on how you scored the first one). GSP was an unbelievable fighter but he was the new breed size and athleticism-wise when he came in and rarely looked small (at least until his later fights). Meanwhile:
He was probably right. You gotta factor in that half the BW's on the roster walk around at the same weight as Frankie and he was the LW champ who had beat the LW GOAT(at the time) twice.
Its easy to look back and say "woaah but he lost his next 3". Things can change in this game very quickly, 3 fights ago Anthony Pettis was on his way to being the LW GOAT(imo) and now hes pretty much irrelevant in the division.
