For decades, elite wrestlers have been for the most part dominating elite kickboxers. Wrestling was the ultimate MMA base without which you're dead in the water. Now, with Werdum destroying Cain, Holly killing Ronda, Wonderboy making Johnny Hendricks look like he doesn't belong in the same cage, and Conor taking heads clean off, the chickens have come home to roost. Wrestling is no longer the IT factor, we're back to the good old days, the 80s karate movies, the age where kicks and punches are all you need to win the Kumite. Frank Dux, Rocky and Daniel Larusso are back, baby.

Always goes in phases...all depends on the match up and specific fighters

Keep in mind that all these kickboxers WOULD be dead in the water without wrestling. They all just happen to have 1000s of hours of wrestling training to go with their kickboxing.

These fighters would be nowhere without TDD.
It's all about exploiting the advantages you have without letting the rest of your game kill you, in MMA.

Before you come standing you need to learn how to stuff takedowns and grapple. How about the best way to win is to master everything ?

Someone's got to stop all these Swedish Cities from winning all the fights.

It's def more exciting than seeing grown men wrestle fuck each other on the ground.

I don't hate if it's in WMMA tho, sorry, too biased.

MMA has shifted in the past few years and fighters are adopting a more striking based offense. We are seeing more successful striking based fighters now in the top of the rankings and you have guys that are grappling based fighters developing top level striking games.

It wasn't even wrestlers. It was wrestlers with countless hours submission training to defend subs. Now its strikers with countless hours wrestling training to defend takedowns.

I bet Wonderboy would dominate a high school wrestling tournament and do okay in NCAA.

this is nothing knew.

Many of us predicted that once we reached PEAK TDD in the ufc striking would slowely evolve and take over

Holly is next! Can't wait to see her outclass Miesha then send her into retirement.

Yup new era Holly Holms, Conor Mcgregor, Luke Rockhold, and Stephen Thompson will get the belt next

Not a lot of accusations of Lay and Pray these days. Certainly true.

We'll see where it goes from here.

I think you get the call for blood from the fans and media and people moving away from their bread and butter which is why you have such a focus on striking. It's inherently more entertaining.

Hughes, Cain, DC ect. all woke up and decided they were K1 level fighters and well, the rest is history.

It's getting excitement back. Take the consciousness from a few wrestlers & BJJ humpers and butts will fill the seats.
