Vitor Belfort burst on the UFC scene in 1996, and blew away his first 3 opponents in about 2 minutes total. He was a top fighter, perhaps the very best in the world, in 1996.

Fast forward to 2016, and the guy just fought for the MW title last year, and is still a top MW contender today.

Think about that for a second... the guy is at the very top of the foodchain two decades later.

That would be like if Jon Jones was still a top contender in 2030... that's insane.

I cant see anyone doing that again in mma.

No one has been at the top or near the top as long. Roids or no roids Vitor has been phenom young and a phenom old.

Robbie Lawler is starting to look like he,ll have a real long career. He's been in the game a long time and just gets better and better.

Hespect the old lion young dinosaur.

Although in terms of pure career length his is not that impressive. There's this Japanese fighter still active today who was fighting Shooto several years before UFC 1. Patrick Smith, who lost to Ken Shamrock at UFC 1, is still active until quite recently.

Barnett would have been in the same boat if he would have beat ben....he's been going since 1997.

And how dare you forget about Gracie/Shamrock!

Sorry, but none of them are competitive on the highest level of mma.

I know others have had long careers, but Vitor was a top fighter 20 years ago, and is still a top fighter at the highest level today.

Well first of all, and seriously, lol at Vitor being the top of the food chain right now. He was on TRT and has had a serious drop off since his Jesus juice was taken away. Randy captured the Heavyweight title at age 44. Hendo has fought into his 40's. Robbie Lawler had his first professional fight in 2001 and is champion 15 years into his career.

It's impressive but Vitor has had the help of some good vitamins and supplements along the way.

Can we all agree that all people will never agree on anything in MMA and that no one should be allowed to make "can we all agree" threads

Andrei Arlovski had his first professional fight in 1999 and is still making waves 17 years into it.

Randy was only at the top for 10 years. Hendo for 11. Vitor was a contender/champ for almost 20 years. This isn't about who is the oldest.

Also weren't Randy and Hendo also on TRT

couture. he did it right.

Barnett's first fight was in 1997.
Vitor's first fight was 1996.

Tied for times popped for juice!

Vitor 36 fights
Barnett 42 fights

Robbie is champion after 15 years. Arlovski is still a contender top 10 guy 17 years into it. Vitor is not the only guy that has fought a long time and fights in the top org. Barnett, who is past his prime just had a fight and his first fight was in 1997.

It's incredibly difficult to give Vitor props for longevity when he's had some supplemental help throughout chunks of his career.
Robbie Lawler has had greater longevity due to Vitor's doping in my opinion. Debut at 18 years old, UFC champion at 33.
