25 Minority Characters That Hollywood Whitewashed

I think productions should cast whoever they want, it's stupid to put arbitrary restrictions. That includes casting minority actors to play white characters if they want.

What I don't like is that these news articles are always written by hypocritical liberals. If you're going to be upset that the source material wasn't followed 100%, then you should also be equally upset if a minority actor is cast to play a white character. But naturally they don't care, we all know why, they think whites are the "oppressor" class and hate them for it.

What's crazy is Hollywood not developing a bankable Asian actor. The Asian market is such a moneymaker for them.

Yeah I always felt like John Lone from Year of the Dragon , Rush Hour and The Last Emperor could have been pushed more. Dude had the acting chops , looks, and charisma to be a bigger star than he was .

Why would you cast an all Asian cast, when Asians make up such a small minority of ticket holders?

But you cant really blame hollywood they know most of America will not watch a movie like Ghost in the Shell if the leads were Asians, or 21 if it was true to form with Asians.

They study this and know it thats why studios recast these roles with white actors, because an all Asian cast is not going to make money in America and if it does its an exception and rarity like Crouching Tiger.

I don't think think that's true though. Bigoted Hollywood movie execs assume the worst of the American audience. But they were wrong about casting blacks and women and I think they are wrong here.

Did casting white actors help sell the Dragonball movie or the Last Airbender? Those movies sucked, but casting white people only added to the ridicule.

Maybe it's just me, but I think in 2017, movie audiences can handle seeing an Asian protagonist without being put off.

People seem to not understand that it's just sensible marketing to have the race of the main characters in a movie produced in this country to match the race of the majority of the population.

I'm usually not going to complain just like I wouldn't complain if a movie produced in Japan have predominantly Japanese actors, or Indian actors in Bollywood movies or Ugandan actors in Ugandan movies.

I have to admit, however, that I'd be thrown off if Batman was suddenly played by Will Smith, Black Panther played by Donnie Yen or if Christian Bale was cast as Ryu.

I'm super pumped to see Idris Elba as The Gunslinger. I was a little surprised with the choice at first because Roland was always a Clint Eastwood type in my Mind's eye when I read the books. But he seems to have the right personality and stoic stature to pull off the role.

I'm hoping the people forget in the first 5 minutes about the color of Roland's skin because Idris is killing the role and ends up being perfect for it.

Yes i agree he is a good enough actor to pull off the role,and not have his ethnicity even get in the way,but you know they were thinking how can we spice things up that people wont expect?? and I just think why would you do that when they dont have to?
