http://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/22/un-r...cast-to-9-point-8-billion-people-by-2050.html
-Projection increased to 11.2 billion by 2100 despite population stagnation/shrinkage in most of the world due to continued explosive growth in Africa with no real end in sight.
-Africa pop. will double by 2050, roughly quadruple by 2100, surpass population of Asia soon after. Nigeria to surpass US population within a generation.
Optimistic African development forecasts inevitably fail. Today's "worst case scenarios" are revised into reality half a decade later, like clockwork.
Dismissing an entire continent as a lost cause/giving them 2,000 years to work it out libertarian style are no longer options. The northward flow of poverty has been a key factor in North African/Middle Eastern political instability and is now washing ashore in Southern Europe. This is the epicenter from which the population tsunami originates, and yet we barely discuss it, fixated instead on the nuances of Islam.
After decades of unheeded warnings or callous "aids will take care of it" jokes, it's officially the world's problem. What can developed countries do?
