Elections 20 000 Republicans just voted a Nazi through the primaries

What exactly were you trying to say? I didn't understand it. He called himself Republican, but was also the former head of the American Nazi party. You seemed to completely sidestep that and deflect onto "leftists" hate? I honestly have no idea what point you tried to make or how you feel about the story.
I'm saying that republicans voted for a republican. I'm not understanding how this has started a post storm of confusion.

Do you think they just clicked the box associated with the Republican without knowing anything about the guy at all? I think that is probably what happened. I seriously doubt very many people would knowingly vote for the former head of the American Nazi party (whatever the hell that is).

Yes. Thats exactly what the majority of people do.

It would be wonderful to be able to find out how many did that and how many liked voting for a Nazi. Can someone go ask Cambridge Analytica if they can take a moment and let us know?

I have noticed that a lot of people will completely ignore contemptible aspects of somebody's views if they mostly agree with them on other things.

For example, the poster Viva went on for like 10 pages claiming the Holocaust is a myth and defending Nazis and Hitler as not really being all that bad. I don't remember a single right-wing poster arguing with him about it, even though they were all making appearances in the thread. They would just drop in and say something unrelated.

Why? I don't really know. But I guess it's just because he shares a few of their views, so they seem him as being on their team. Even if he is an open Nazi sympathizer and will push any inaccurate, misleading, or flat out false disinformation regarding the Holocaust. At least he's on their team.

What do you mean invest money? They could hvae invested ZERO in the primary besides facebook posts saying "Vote for _______ cuz Arthur Jones is a literal Nazi".

If they don't want to oppose the democrat candidate, then don't spend anything on the campaign. Instead, they chose to do zip and now have the embarassment of having their party and voters associated to a literal nazi.

EDIT
Just realized your last sentence is still running with the "democrats secretly voted for him" conspiracy theory. I only have this reaction to that notion

<{hughesimpress}>

Come on bro , that's just silly in this discussion.

There wasn't even a republican candidate in 2016 for the Third District...none...zero.

They have no interest in running a campaign there

GOP urged its voters to not vote for the Nazi and they still did it.

If you want to believe rogue Democrats voted for him then okay that's what you believe. I am sure its mostly if not all Republicans...

Yeah that's fair.... I am sure there were Republican people who voted for him.. Do I believe all 20,000 are Republican voters, no.

Maybe I'm sticking my head in the sand a little bit, because I'm a Republican and I would never consider voting for that dude

This is why people on this forum are so combative. You ask a question, and for every one answer you get ten insults. Behaviour like yours is just furthering the division.

Why didn't you just Google the guy?

out of curiosity I wanted to know the difference in terms of voting turnout primary vs general in Illinois. i'll post the numbers for 2014 and 2012 for Republican votes for the 3rd district.

Primary Election 2014: 29,295
General Election 2014: 64,091

Primary Election 2012: 35,205
General Election 2012: 77,653

Further proof that a huge majority of Republicans ended up voting for Arthur in the primary.

I browsed around and Arthur Jones popped up in several primaries. He averaged 5-6k votes against opposition so there are at least that many true Nazi supporters in Illinois. Everybody else most likely voted because he's a Republican regardless of whether they knew he was a Nazi or not. But he's been around the block had lost at least 6-7 primaries so most voters should know what he stands for. Especially due to his "special background" as a ex-Nazi leader makes him stand out.

So not running a candidate at all is better than running just any warm body in the primary to make sure a Nazi doesn't hijack the party?

If I were a local republican there I would be concerned the the local republican offices were so disinterested in my area that they chose to let a Nazi steal the party nomination than to put forth any effort.

If you read this guy's campaign promises, they are pretty standard. His personal history is disgusting, but he's running on:

Bring Our Troops Home Now!: Our troops are sinking deeper into the abyss of unending wars in the Middle East. It’s time to end these wars that are so costly in lives lost and money wasted.

Illegal Immigration: Currently the U.S. government has military bases in over 100 foreign nations to defend their borders and to repel foreign invasion of those countries. I think it is time to bring our troops home to defend our own country’s borders against illegal alien drug dealers, criminals, and potential terrorists.

No More “Sanctuary Cities”!: This is about the dumbest idea ever conceived. And it is clearly a blatant violation of Article 4, section 4 of the Constitution of the United States, where every state is guaranteed a republican form of government and protection against invasion and domestic violence. So, no Mayor or City Council has the authority to declare their city a “sanctuary” for illegal aliens who are in violation of Federal immigration laws.

No Amnesty for Illegal Aliens: Don’t believe the Liberal media lies that there are 11 million illegal aliens in this country. They have been using that number for at least 10 years. The real number of illegal aliens is 20-30 million. And, they are costing us billions of dollars each year in free health care, subsidized housing, free education for their children; and spreading diseases and violent crime across the country.

Make English the Official Language: America was founded by English speaking people. For most of our history as a nation, if you wanted to be able to advance yourself, as a new legal immigrant, you had to learn how to speak and write in English. Since 1965, with the repeal of the McCarran-Walter Act, (which was an immigration law favoring White, European legal immigrants) the requirement for citizenship to be able to speak and write English was swept aside and now any two-legged vagabond from any Third-world, non-white, or non-Christian country is given preference whether they arrived legally or illegally. Either, learn America’s language, our culture, and respect our laws or get out of our country!

2012

What would be really crazy would be if he won. The incumbent beat his Dem challenger by 1% with a 90,000 total turnout and I really doubt people are going to stay home because they're mad their pick lost the primary when the alternative is a Holocaust denier.

Arthur Jones will get crushed imo.

So just throw out a sacrificial lamb? If they gave money to his opponent , better? (They have not, just an idea)

Also, it is still beyond me how a National Socialist could join the GOP.
I mean a hateful racists KKK member I get that. But the Nazis were socialist to the bone that is in complete contrast to GOP policies.
There is probably no major Party in the western world further away from economic Nazi policies than the GOP. I just don't get it.

Economics take a back seat to being a piece of shit, so thry go GOP

Not trying to insult your intelligence but you are quite delusional if you believe people who bothered to vote Democrat in the primaries would be so angry about their candidate losing that they would do an about turn and vote not only for a Republican but well known neighborhood Nazi...

Hes not a nazi, hes a holocaust skeptic. Nothing illegal about that.

Hey genius, the other dipshits already saw this info:

You're clueless about alot of things so no surprise there .

The former head of the American Nazi Party ran for the Republican nomination of Congress in Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District. No Republican stepped up to oppose him.

On Tuesday, despite his vocal Holocaust denial, his anti-Semitic rhetoric, and his white supremacist views, 20,339 Illinois Republicans, according to preliminary totals, cast their ballots for Arthur Jones.

He was the head of the American Nazi party. He attended and attends neo-nazi rallies commemerating Adolf Hitler. He used to attend pro-segregation rallies dressed as a Nazi. He is extensively involved in "national socialist" organizations.

Your reflexive "leftists call everyone they don't like Nazis" is even more misplaced than usual here.
