Vote on one of the top 10 of the most brilliant frightening films ever made. For me it was "The Exorcist", 1973.

Unfortunately, this is going to end up being a battle between The Shining and The Exorcist, and everyone else is getting squashed.

In before the dork brigade suggests serbian film and other shitty foreign films.

"The Silence of the Lambs" or "Alien" would come in second for me.

I'm partial to Halloween and Alien, myself. While I like both The Shining and The Exorcist, they were never particularly frightening to me.

The movie that scared me the most as a kid was Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things.

Nobody will ever guess what I voted for

Hint: it wasn't Rosemary's baby

The Children (1980) scared the shit out of me when I was little, something about radiated kids burning people with their touch.

One, two, Freddy's coming for you.
Three, four, Better lock your door.
Five, six, Grab a crucifix.
Seven, eight, Gonna stay up late.
Nine, ten, Never sleep again....

Ranking the movies on that list:

1. The Shining
2. The Exorcist
3. Alien
4. The Silence of the Lambs
5. Psycho
6. The Omen
7. Halloween
8. Rosemary's Baby
9. Carrie
10. Nightmare on Elm Streets

Lot's of close calls though.

I'm kinda torn between the Exorcist and Alien. Not sure which one is scarier, but I like Alien more so I pick that one.

It's been a while since I saw the Exorcist though.

Alien is my favorite on that list though not the most frightening for me.

This flick is more frightening than any of the poll options.

Its between Alien, The Shining and The Exorcist.

I went with the Exorcist simply because I vividly remember seeing it for the first time when I was around 6 and I couldn't sleep for a few days. I was scared to death that if I went to sleep I'd end up being possessed by Satan.
