Trust me I've listened to a lot of rap music. For many years that's all I listened to. Mostly 90s east coast and 1988 or so golden era stuff. That stuff was good. I only know of the mainstream garbage of today.

Same thing with criminal justice reform. Dont say the word black. Say cops are killing people and too many people are in prison and too many americans are being stomped out by a rubber stamp legal system

DOnt play to tribal aspects at all and talk as if we are one people with a common struggle. Even if the issue effects one race more than another dont highlight the race and frame it as something americans struggle with

Trap music is more lyrically like funk than traditional hip hop. The lyrics are for rhythm/mood and emphasis, not really for narrative reasons. Think James Brown.

The problem is that there are particular problems related to that, and people will and should talk about it, and that gets read as "Democrats talking about it." Look at Clinton's campaign--top issues discussed by the campaign were affordable education, family leave, tighter financial regs, and reducing carbon emissions. What did Trump voters hear, though?

I think regular people and the media have a responsibility to tell the truth. Politicians have a responsibility to try to win elections. But hard right nutters thinks that the MSM is all just acting on behalf of the Democratic Party and so if truth upsets them, they just blame Democrats.

Most people I know are sympathetic to what people went through but unfortunately the past has bin used as a political weapon to cause anger rather than a solution.

The politics of resentment has bin used to keep people from realizing their potential more than present day "oppression".
