‘Worse than gymnastics’: Lawsuit makes explosive sex abuse allegations involving USA Diving

might as well just coach your own kid's teams at this pt

obviously that's hyperbolic, but man. People used to trust like preachers/priests/coaches/scout leaders and that has changed a bit.

How is this even close to being "worse than gymnastics"?
This is 2 girls, the MSU/ Olympic Gymnastics scandal affected ~ 300 girls, all minors, many, if not mostly children.

You take in the allegations against the wrestling coach and it sounds like the school knew that at least two athletic groups were being taken advantage of and said nothing. Add in it's Ohio State and how huge financially their athletic department is......

WOWZA ! ! ! !

{<tongue} {<tongue} {<tongue}

I can imagine getting a train run on me by that team.

What they need to do is go after the enablers. Decimate them with extreme prejudice.
MSU, PSU, OSU.... sanction the entirety of their athletic programs for a decade, not even intramurals, and bring criminal charges with real teeth against any individuals directly involved with the coverups. THEN make it know that any programs that don't come clean in the next 3 months will suffer even greater consequences.

Agreed other than intramurals. I say go after anything that makes the uni money. Intramurals don't as far as I know.

tuition makes them money, too. I don't know about you but I'm not going to a school where I can't get my intramural b-ball on; breaking ankles like the mob.

I don't see how 17-year olds are getting coerced into this. It's a conscious decision on their part, shot at the olympics over self-respect. I remember what it was like to be 17, I had plenty of street smarts and it would have been impossible to coerce me into anything. It's very different from being a pre-teen or a younger teen.

It's probably cause I'm not a parent but I feel like that hypothetical is a gray area spot for me.
I understand, but I want to remove as much gray as possible, even to the point of being obstinate, to prevent any sort of legal grey area, given that the protection of the minor is the primary goal here.

That's not even true. A lot of places as long as they are 16 and you are within 5 years of that it's cool.
I think this creates unnecessary gray area that leads down the road of adults having improper relationships with minors. I am wholly against these, in my view, loopholes.

I know before my courthouse job I was very much like you. But I've seen guys who were dating pre-graduation a girl that the relationship continued and then they get charged with Child Rape 2 and are stuck with the potential requirement of registering as a sex offender for the rest of their lives.

I wouldn't say it's softened my stance but... there are things I DO see in black/white but this is one of those ones that I don't, as of now at least.

You are saying they are making a conscious decision to comply with the coaches demand that they sleep with him if they want to have a chance at the Olympics. The argument is that he demanded they sleep with him, not that they offered sex to curry favor. The very fact that he made the demand is the violation.

Further, the claim is he requested and received hundreds of nude pics of a minor who is under his direction. Requesting and retaining nude pics of a minor is child pornography violation,.

It is precisely these sorts of situations I would like to avoid. If you know that it’s illegal and you’ll be destroyed by doing it, then it would stand to reason you’ll see less of he crime.

I also want to avoid situations where a 25 y/o dates a 17 y/o and people make the argument, “Well, it was just a few months before it was legal. What’s the big deal?” Make the line hard and undisputed, and you’ll have no reasonable person questioning about if they can do it or not. Wait a few months until the person is 18, and if you still want to pursue romantic relations, go for it.

I can see that but then I see my parents ages vs each other and even myself. My dad turns 80 next month. My mom turns 66 in November and I turn 30 in October. My dad was virtually done with high school by the time my mom was born. Admittedly they met super late in life but we love who we love (and I'm not trying to use this in that creepy let the 29 year old date a 15 year thing).

I'm so glad I was single until I was like 22 and the pair of girls I have dated were both older than I.

I agree w/ SubThug on this

I realize certain states have different windows, and AoC laws, but if you treat it as under 18= no.......you'll never get in trouble. If you're both still in HS then I can see that argument (say one just turned 18 earlier in their senior year, than another senior.....) but once you're a legal adult you are a legal adult. Not a minor. So pursue other adults

Plus he's military, they are subject to different, universal/federal standards that don't take into account state or other countries laws. For example, it is illegal for SM's to use prostitutes even if they are in a country where it is legal. Same w/ adultery, which is definitely a punishable offense (but not illegal whatsoever in the real/outside world). So his stance on this, makes complete sense to me at least

The key is that they were both consenting, rational adults when this all happened. There's nothing wrong with them or even what Hugh Hefner was doing (dating 20-somethings while being an 80 y/o dude). Those women were adults who knew what they were getting into, whereas a minor doesn't have those faculties yet.

Dating older women is great until you're considering settling down. I had a girlfriend that I dumped because of this. I wasn't prepared to move on her timeline.

When i say older I mean usually not more than 2 years.

See? You're well into adulthood and still complying with my views ;)
Lol

Maybe I'm becoming a pissy old man but I can't deal with girls under the age of like 24. Like, totally sexually attracted to but can't deal with their personalities. I live with one/was working with her and she's attractive but the "I have a worldly outlook with no world experience" drives me bonkers.
