Eddie has connections. Vinny is an accomplished grappler who needs to keep his name out there.

He's trained with Eddie, as he's trained lots of places. He uses rubber guard as part of his guard game, and I'm sure that Eddie showed parts of his game to Vinny. At that level, you're really not training under someone. People exchange tips on things they specialize in, to hone in on a specific aspect of something. Eddie has a highly developed game for a specific type of guard that works in certain situations, and for that game he probably has a lot to show. However Vinny was already a BJJ world champ/medalist before training with Eddie. I doubt it was like him taking lessons, more like Eddie saying "Here's what I do from here, and here's what I do if he reacts this way, etc." and then they practiced the moves for a while, Vinny integrated it into his game, and now it's something he does.
