Well he's the best draw, period. It was just the matter of GSP fighting a "bad guy", so the whole Canada would watch him do the justice. Don't forget he fought Hardy before this angle was overused in fights like GSP-Kos and GSP-Diaz. Also, this was before half of mentioning GSP was due to his boring style.

It was a different time, way less events and even then the card had Carwin vs Mir interim title fight as co-main.

Of course it matters, do you think the fans would rather see Jones fighting someone at +800 and who nobody gives a chance or someone at +100 and who many believe will beat Jones. Its also a big rivalry which are always good for numbers.

The card is also stacked. It's hard to predict numbers so far away because the hype could die down or it could become insane who knows whats going to happen.

This is all genius. I think this event does 1.2 Mil - I know it's bold and I sound dumb right now but they are completely skipping advertising 177 and putting the full machine behind this and the absolute FLOOR is 850k.

My thoughts:

A) This is the first time Jones has a legit contender at less than 2:1 odds.
B) As today showed, full hype machine
C) Football season starting
D) McGregor brings in entire Euro market
E) Will have been 2-3 months since last even decent card
F) Stacked card from head to toe.

I really think this is a genius move by the UFC to produce another superstar (Jones isn't quite there yet but will be if he wins, and if DC wins, the rematch will be epic)

Okay, okay, I will narrow this down to my specific prediction:

900k buys

And I love all this "good for ratings, bad for sport" bullshit. It's the fight game, this will always be part of it and it makes it more exciting and personal. Stop comparing apples to oranges Matt Hughes.
