Dana prefers him getting money over Barao getting money and will as such whatever he wants with little to no consideration to the truth.

Massive Barao fan but have followed the UFC long enough to know Dana's word is junk (I don't think Dana would dispute that).

I know personally that if I were considering sponsoring a fighter, I'd prefer that fighter be THE champion and not the interim champion.

That kind of stuff actually means a lot to some people. In this case, it means that there is a guy out there who can say he's also the champion of the division. So why not sponsor him instead? or why not sponsor one of the champs who's undisputed?

yea i can easily see how this would hurt barao

Dana is full of shit as usual. Before UFC 165 he was talking about how if Gus won the belt, his whole life would change (more money, bigger sponsors, etc). Now it doesn't make a difference.

Little guys aren't big money makers. Lets just state the obvious here. If you're under 155 and male, nobody is going to take you seriously as they do at HW LHW MW WW or even LW. Renan Barao could kick my ass, and most larger fans, but lets face it. This is a case of supply and demand. If nobody wants to see them or sponsor them or whatever, they're shit out of luck.

Just like a lot of people don't like WMMA (I personally love it.) Just like the WNBA is a complete joke of an organization. Nobody cares about women's basketball.

Now before somebody brings up boxing, and how small some of the legends in boxing were/are, boxing is an ancient sport. It has accumulated a huge enough casual fan base that even little guys are well respected.

It will take time for that to happen in MMA. Right now, casual fans of MMA want to see big or average sized men square up.
