I think it should matter if the fight goes to a decision. The judges should know that it wasn't a groin shot and not hold it against Certone but count it in his favor.
What if a ref takes a point away and then we learn from a replay later that it wasn't a foul at all? Instant replay could stop that from happening.

What if Miller had that shot happen in round 1 and Cerrone won Round 1 10-9. Then Miller came back and won rounds 2 and 3 10-9. The ref takes a point away at the end of the fight or whatever, now we have a draw.
In that scenario, the ref would need to say "Miller was clearly hurt and not defending himself so the fight should have stopped and Cerrone wins".
I just don't see I.R. working in a combat sport.
