Expecting compensation for going to the Olympics demonstrates something of a misunderstanding of why one goes to the Olympics.

You don't have to expect something to be disappointed and/or feel it wasn't a good deal.

You guys realize that the olympics are supposed to be for amatuers, right? That's pretty much the whole point of them.

Yes they have relaxed/abandonded the strict amatuer rules the past couple decades but if you are surprised the olympics don't pay much then I don't know what to tell you.

Depends on the sport. The reality is some sports are niche markets and no matter how much time you devote you are never going to get good money.

It's a rational decision anybody makes. People going to college can work their ass off studying certain degree's but the harsh reality is that some offer little job opportunities and sub par pay.

Of course the UFC is going to offer better monetary opportunities than Judo lol. There is a market for it. Just like certain sports in the Olympics have a bigger market and a larger opportunity for cash if you get to the top.
