Takedowns are a real issue with the current scoring.
and then jones got right up without taking damage and landed the most significant strike of the round in the closing seconds with an elbow from the clinch.

I gave Gus rounds 1 and 3. 48-47 Bones.

I'm surprised round 1 is in question and not 2 or 3 to be honest.

Lol, Jones did not "CLEARLY" win the first round.

I gave Gus the first 3 rounds but round 2 could have gone either way imo. No way did Jones win round 1 though.

I scored round 1 as a draw, but would give Jones a slight edge. I thought the judges would give it to Gus because of the takedown though.

after watching again, gus was lighting jones up for the first 4 minutes of round 4. I would have not been upset with a 10-10 round there. and this is from a guy that didn't really think gus had a chance

I re-watched the fight and I'll agree that the first round was much closer than I thought. I'm still giving it to Gus. BloodyElbow.com scored the first round for Bones. It was close and could have gone the other way. It depends on how much you weight the takedown (we all know the UFC judges love takedowns).

This.

At around 3:30, Gus landed a good left hook and peppered Jones non-stop for a whole minute. At 4:30, Bones landed the spinning elbow. If you look closely at his follow up strikes, nothing else landed clean. Gus did a good job at rolling with the punches and avoiding additional damage.

I'm not so sure that Jones deserves to win the round due to landing 1 good shot. This was easily Gus' best round up until that elbow landed.

even with gus completely gassed, he was still landing. jones did take the last round. I would have maybe (but probably not) given him the first. and again , 4th a 10-10 imo. I really didn't think gus belonged in there with jones. beating shogun doesn't mean much nowadays as far as title contention is concerned. he proved me wrong, and I honestly thought he won. oh well. jones certainly looked mortal. will be interesting to see his upcoming fight, whoever it ends up being.

I will ask this:

Are the people who are saying the TD probably sealed the round for Gus the same people who said that the late TDs did not win Davis the first 2 rounds?

Without that TD, the round was very, very close.
