Josh is a risk because of his history of failed drug tests. However the idea that he single-handedly brought down Affliction is absurd.

Affliction as fight promotion was never a viable enterprise, it was based on wishful thinking. An anti-ufc/Pride fanboy jackoff. There was never any way that they would have made it past the third show even if they could have pulled it off.

The Affliction guys thought they were promoters and could buy their way into a successful rivalry with Zuffa. The problem is that they didn't know what they were doing and didn't have deep enough pockets to weather the early losses that were inevitable from their business model.

But back to Josh. If the UFC signs him they will be taking a calculated risk. Josh is still a top HW, but he's older and has a bad track record with doping. I'm sure Dana and company are well aware and are structuring the contract to manage the risk.

Josh knows how to promote, and if he can still perform at a high level without screwing up then everyone will have a happy and profitable time. I look forward to seeing what he can do.

This.

People always say "Barnett killed Affliction" but he was simply the nail in the coffin. Affliction failed because they paid the fighters more than they could afford; they lost money on their first two shows and I'm sure they would have lost money on their third one as well. If one failed drug test is enough to kill a promotion then it's safe to assume that the company was going to die soon anyways.
