I'd like to think they could earn it again but then you're likely to set up a situation where the number two is killing contenders for the champ. It's a sport but a business as well, probably more so, actually, and you need fresh match ups.

I have no problem with a fighter who has fought the champ before, but never beat him, getting title shots against said champ as long as there are no other available, equally worthy contenders and the guy has earned his rematch.

Thats why all these imediate rematches are so annoying. Its very risky because this is becoming very common. Just look at Junior with Cain or Bendo and Pettis, or even Frankie and Bendo. The same could very well happen to Barao.

Personally, i think Junior and Bendo are pretty much the #2 guys in there division. However they have both been soundly beaten by the champs on more than one occasion.

In answer to your question, personally i like seeing the champion face as many different fighters as possible, but also feel for a #2 guy that earns the shot. Its a tricky one.

If he still proves to be the #1 contender, then yes. Especially with rushed trilogies or rematches.

Cormier is taking that belt.

Might wanna rewatch that fight. He trapped his arm as soon as they went to the ground.

If there's no other interesting match ups, why not

I don't believe in not giving a fighter his shot just because he's lost to the champ twice. If he's the #1 contender and earned his shot, then give it to him, even if he's lost 100 times to the champ.

I don't want to ever see jds v Cain again. Cain gas already beaten years off jds's career and life.
