why do refs separate the fighters when one backs off and the other decides to stand up again? Seems like a official stop in the action, which doesn't make sense. The only timeouts should be injury related, no?
Otherwise we'd have huge stalemates where a guy just sits on his guard moving around because he doesn't want to take the risk of popping back up and getting hit with something on the way

Haha no time for bullshit like that against Tyron Woodley. Dude hits too hard, especially in round 1.

Best analogy i can think of.

I feel what you're saying saying regarding 'when' the strike is thrown... but again, more subjectivity in MMA.

I can keep aiming for your ear and I'll hit the back of your head every time you throw diagonal strikes and that will be 'turning into it' too right?

That's the point i'm raising.

Still, the rule is there for a fighter's safety. I feel the fight should have been paused and restarted. He was hit in the head, sure- not intentionally, but the fight shouldn't end as a result of a strike landing in an illegal area.

If I was throwing mid kick at you at the same time you went for a high kick and hit you straight in the balls... would it be an acceptable TKO?

Dong's obsession with being seen as exciting cost him. He should've played it safer.

The thing with spinning shit is that you lok awesome when you succeed, but when you fail you look like a total fool. Probably not the best idea to throw spins straight off the bat when up against a sharp fighter such as Woodley.

Well the rules are there for a reason, but it is a fight... Only so many variables can be accounted for.

When dudes start spinning, targets move.

Agreed.

Still think the fight should have been paused, and continued upon review that the initial damaging blow connected to the back of the head.
