Less divisions would be better than more divisions. No reason to give the very best fighters more barriers to cross(AKA weight divisions) to fight one another. Also, more belts=less fighters in each division competing for belt=belt holds less relevance.

No CW until/unless LHW and HW get a lot more talent in them.

Weight classes exist to protect smaller fighters from bigger ones. The very top HW's(Cain, JDS, Browne, Cormier) are all 240 or under. They could easily cut to a 225-230 CW division...but why? Fighters that size don't need to be protected from anyone.

Down the line, if guys who couldn't make 225 run the show, maybe add that division. But right now, it's just a bad idea.
Yeah right now a 225 lbs division is not needed, but it probably will be needed when, or if MMA becomes mainstream enough to become an attractive alternative to football/basketball.

That's true right now, but it won't be true when or if MMA becomes mainstream. The reason why the HW division is so weak and have so few really big/heavy fighters is because most big athletes plays football or basketball because it pays a lot better.

Is a 225 lbs division needed right now? No not really, but it probably will be needed in the future.

Wpuld.

Thread title should be changed to "If you could change the weight classes, how would you change them?"

Then I realized, there is never stupid question. Only stupid people asking questions.

Ideal?
Heavyweight- No limit- sure a few fatties who gas but it will be self policing after 2 years of natural selection
Cruiserweight-225
Middleweight- 185
Lightweight- 155
Featherweight- 135

Implement doctor mandated licensing for which weight class allowed to compete at based on bw % mostly but also take into account factors such as kidney health and other things they should know more about than me. Basically cap out cutting to 7ish pounds for smaller classes, and 12 for large ones. Let's have the weight classes mean something, and not have a million of them

I can't believe someone else said it.

Personally I've always wanted:

130 lbs - 150 lbs - 175 lbs - 200 lbs - 201+ lbs

What a terrible idea and there is no logic behind it either.

All that is needed is Cruiserweight. it would stop much of the ridiculous weight cutting and enable more guys to fight at their natural weight classes. Their gas tanks and health would improve. Better fights.
